Default Bedford OY/OYD Id/Chassis number

I am looking at buying a Bedford OYD and I was wondering if any one could tell me when it was built.
Do records exist?

Thanks
Tyler

Hi,
If the top number on the plate reads 92388, then it was built in 1945. The last chassis number for an OY recorded in that production year was 93385.

regards, Richard

Thanks Richard,

From what I've found online which in mainly the Wikipedia page being re-quoted they made LWB 60cwt OYC and OYD & the SWB 30cwt versions were designated OX
Is it known how many OYD/OYD GS were produced?
Is it possible to tell which contract this was part of?

The OXD 30cwt GS Cargo version was not built after about 1941. The final serial number of OY chassis for 1945 was 93385. It is not likely that anymore were built as the army was swimming in vehicles by the end of the war.
According to Bart Vanderveen's Bedford book the Bedford OY chassis numbers started at 21001, so subtract that from the last vehicle number of 93385 and you have the total built.

The only way you will find a contract number is if the small plate is still in the cab or if the postwar rebuild plate is on the chassis under the nearside of the cab. This if fitted will have the postwar army rego number and if the Key Card is available from RLC Museum, it will have the wartime census number and contract number on it.

regards, Richard

Managed to carefully strip the paint back on the contract plate to reveal the original finish and the number.
The dash plate contract number matches the cargo body.
Anyone have details on the contract number or where I could find details?
Contract Number: 23.S.9422
Thanks

Hi,
I cannot find that contract number with army census number allocation in the Chilwell census list as it only goes up to November 1944. From your chassis number it was built in 1945. I might have expected the allocation to be in the list as later contract numbers appear and I am wondering if it was from a contract for the RAF or RN as they were not recorded in the army list.

regards, Richard
