Default Packrat thinning out some CMP stuff (ALL SOLD)

Despite it being around 30°these days, the realization is hitting that winter is around the corner. The sheds are full, so perhaps it's time to thin things out a bit, so here we go:

Half of a CMP cargo box with tailgate...SOLD. Tailgate has it's bends, but is useable as is. Cargo box is quite clean with the exception of a bit of holing through on the top edge. It would appear it may have been stored upside down for a while. All in all though it is quite restorable and other than the top, rustfree.

Rob,
I would take 2 of the DND Army marked extinguishers for $40.00 as I have a good number of plain ones.

I'd be interested in the CMP POW boxes

Default Special request.....

Hi Rob

I ran into some problems fitting a gas tank on my cab 11...... I refinished two tanks RH/LH and after they were all done the LH (pass.) side would not fit.

It seems that some tanks have 6 inches between the forward end of the tank and the filler neck and some have 9 inches. The short 6 inch one wil not fit as the filler neck would not fit under the floor plate.

Can you measure yours and let me know. I am working on a C15a and both my tanks have the short filler neck have the 5 bolts float cover of the Chev. I also have a Ford tank that as only 6 inches.

I will be starting up a new thread on the gas tanks as soon as I get more info.
What would the short 6 inch tank fit is a mystery to me.

Thanks

Bob C

Lynn,
All is in hand, but Thanks for keeping an eye on things for me. All I need to do is de solder the tops of my plain ones, and replace with Rob`s. They are the same extinguisher, just mine are not embossed.

Rob,

I could use a couple of the DND Army fire extinguishers if you still have some.

Measured the tank neck and it is 6" from the edge.

Jim
Still some left. Shoot me a PM with how many you want and your postal code.

Default Thanks for the measurements.

That tank will not fit a cab 11 or cab 12 as the filler neck is toooo far forward by 3 inches. .... and not sure if it would fit a cab 13 configuration. However the neck/filler can be relocated.

One more question Rob....... the cover with the reserve valve..... is it brass or funny white metal???

Bob
The cast plate is in brass.

When I look at the tank, the strap marks indicate the filler neck still goes just behind the forward tank strap. So the neck is in the same place as it would be if there was 9" before the neck. The distance between the straps on this tank is 22", so from the front of the tank, you have the first strap centered at around 5", then the neck, then at about 27" back is the second strap, followed by another 5" to the back of the tank. Looking at the photos of Ian John's new project, I believe the extra 3" of the 9" back tank is stuffed under the cab. Perhaps the 9" necked tanks are longer for more capacity? I do note that on the 15cwt trucks the tank can't go further back because the front spring hanger on the rear springs would interfere with the tank.

I have to go mail some parcels off in a few minutes, so I'll swing by the museum and measure up some of the tanks there to compare.

OK, so I went and measured up a bunch of CMPs at the museum, and they were mostly the 9" variety. I did see a 6" one on an 8cwt where the location of the neck doesn't really matter because the tank is behind the cab. I look forward to Bob's gas tank thread to see what the differences are. I do note that there are not a lot of variations on the early tanks in the early Ford parts manual (only the F15A seemed to have a different part number most of the time), but that can wait for Bob's thread.

Both tanks I have listed are for the Ford. Postage to Ontario that I have checked for someone else come to $35, and the ring would likely add less than $5 more. If interested or you need more measurements of the tank, PM me.

Sorry, but can't help on the Cab 13 roof at this time.

HI Rob I am still interested in the 13 cab gas tank ( Ford) and chev D ring. Once drained of nasty juices can you ship the fuel tank to me in Ontario?? Any idea of cost. There is no rush so any truck type carrier service is probably just fine. Thanks...Bob Phillips

Bob: I'll drain and clean it, and see if I can get it clean enough for post, which would make it around $40 or so. Once cleaned and weighed I can get you a better estimate.

There are no truck shipping depots in this area...it would have to go to Winnipeg which is 100 miles away, so let me try the postal route first. I am sure it will be much cheaper as well.

The only thing that grey hound has over Canada Post is that you can go over 63 pounds. Their pricing is comparatively high, and as a Manitoban, we make Scotsman look like philanthropists.

I am working on a bunch of other parcels and have not got to the tanks yet, but at this point both are spoken for.

Ewan
If you are representing the early Dodge, then the flat topped extinguishers will do the job, and I will be able to set you up with a DND marked example. If you are representing the mid 60s to the 70s, then you will want a commercial Ansul 5 pound in either red or blue.

Default fire extinguisher

Ok.. Then I will not need the extinguisher..I already have both. Eric gave me one old one from a friend who had acquired one from the north. He had apparently found an old vehicle in the bush and took the extinguisher in his back pack hicking it for days back then transported it all the way back to Ottawa for Eric to give it to my and smuggle it in my luggage to transport half way back across the country from where it originaly came from... It came from Norman Wells. I have a couple of red Ancils already. thanks for the offer anyways. e
