Yes them crows can be annoying the buggers were in my back yard only a few months ago, shot a couple but two got away with a semi full of bits.
I think the real danger now lies in the Chinese and their thirst for steel. Local TV adds here late at night are offering farmers cash on the spot for old trucks, tractors and cars.
This is going to really hurt the collector looking for spares as farmers who are cashed strapped because of the drought are just selling their mess up.
If you are a collector in my area of Australia you can watch the trucks comming into twon every day now.

Smorgon Steel are really only doing it for the benefit of the Rural Fire Brigades. See this site. It might pay to advise your local brigade (and your local scrappie, too) of your interest in anything that may come in, and offer them a donation in excess of the $15 a ton they will receive. Come to think of it, if you have enough money to play with old trucks, why don't you give them a donation anyway?

The truck comes from Echuca from a guy who's now in a wheel chair and can't look after it. Maybe one of you guys can decipher the chassis number for me. It is 4215M959. Does the 42 mean its a 1942 model????

Excuse me, here I am sitting here minding my own business and getting verbally abused. We here are pure conservationists protecting the cultural heritage of our great country. We have a duty to rescue these vehicles and preserve them so that others, especially our Canadian CMP depleted friends, can conduct historical tours to South Australia to view their lost heritage.

I am mortified that our rescue missions are viewed in other lights instead of recognising and thanking us for our most pure intentions.

I reckon it's going to be another scam - you'll charge them high entry fees to see "CMPs" made out of papier maché while you secretly drive the ones stolen from other states...

True point Keefy - found this one the other day. No plates unfortunately. Will be GTG with the cab going to another Blitz on a property that still has working Blitzs. I've yet to view these but that field trip is imminent. And don't be too derogatory about our cultural trips, they were also going to promote some videos and DVDs about Blitzs but I can't remember who made them. Perhaps you know.

As to the videos... Hmmmmm yes, I think I know the guy who does them... short, stocky, balding.... constantly has a camera...

So go forth, Ambassador with a Semi trailer, off to the NORTH-EAST to spread the good word and keep on rescuing those cultural icons from the dreadful clasp of the scrappies.

Well, just to put this tally into perspective, we could look at the efforts of the Queenslanders. Ken Hughes took his collection of approx 100 trucks from the Qld Sunshine Coast to the NSW Central Coast.
Score: NSW 100

Tiring of the NSW scene, he then returned his 100 trucks to Kingaroy
Score: Qld 100

This was a heck of an effort and as a reult, Ken has now gone to a place where it is rather difficult to take any toys. The trucks have also joined many others that have gone to the great Vehicle Park in the sky.
Score: Scrap metal metal dealers 10s of thousands.

However, the small numbers also make a difference. In dribs and drabs, this man (Face hidden to protect his identity) has also quietly been bringing trucks back from BOTH Vic and SA!
Score: NSW at least another 6.

Of course, any Interstate pillging trip is a major undertaking, so if you are going to strip another State of it's Heritage Tourist attractions, you may as well make a good fist of it.

Can't recognise the number...'M' looks like Melbourne assembly plant, sequential # 959 but the '4215' is puzzling - it's not a Canadian model designation and neither is it a US one. It could be a Holden model number.

I have seen numbers in the AWM registers for 4113M, 4114M, 4115M, and 4116M, some written as 41.15M. This could be '41 model 1300, '41 model 1400 and '41 model 1500 series trucks assembled in Melbourne. I haven't got far enough through the books, but it may seem that a 4215 might be a 1942 model 30cwt truck?
The description of a 4113 is a "GS uty recon"

" " 4115 is "30cwt GS" or "30cwt Indian Amb"
" " 4116 is 3 ton truck.
