Found another CMP

Found another CMP close to home It is sadly neglected but the cab and chassis seems to be mostly there. I couldn't find any data tags but I think it is a 12 Cab? It looks like it has Chevy axles
I have a few more pictures. I haven't contacted the owner yet any Idea what a fair offer would be?

Front axle? Seem to have trouble getting the right file.

Anyway the truck has its engine and driveline in place the instruments are gone as are the front bumper and original rear cross member.
I'm going out this evening to see if I can strike a deal with the owner.
Heres hoping!

looks like you have a cab 11 there my friend.

It is a Ford from the vent covers but it may be an early one if it has Chev axles.

It has a Ford engine and the axles are definetly GM. Was that common in the early years? Would that place it in '40 or 41?

some of the other more knowledgeable people here will be able to confirm but some of the early Fords were fitted with GM axles. so early 1940 is my guess.

Find the serial number and post it here and that will help ID it.

Just got through to the son of the owner. He is a member of the local Pioneer club and it sounds hopeful

Why not both my 42 C60S Pattern 13 and 41 C60L Pattern 12 have GM axles and Ford brake assemblies.

Look for some tags screwed on the left side of the dog house....I mean engine cover....... almost near the left knee cap of the driver. Should be visible when standing outside the driver's door near the left front corner of the seat......

In the early production days of the cab 11 apparently Ford was in short supply of suitable front axles and Chev axles were fitted.

As pointed out by Phil brake parts were Ford....door handles were 1936 Frod commercial handles.... the grill on my C15a cab11 is Ford rather than Chev mesh.......

You may have discovered a rare beast... hope you can get it and restore.........

It has the air louvers so it is a bit of a later production truck. My first 15cwt was serial number 10,616, was 1941 production, and had the Chev axles. I think the louvers happened somewhere after ser 5000.

Serial number should be located underneath the passenger side door on the vehicle frame. It will start with an F and have a star on the end of it.

I spoke with the son of the elderly lady who owns the truck tonight. He seemed to think my chances of aquiring the truck are pretty good.
I think maybe CMPs are magnetic, you get one in your collection and others start appearing!

Can't say I personnaly know the Williams but I have met them at antique car shows.... they run a John Deere tractor dealership.... I get my oxy/ace tanks from his Canox depot.

The current owner agreed to sell me the 11 cab, Whoo hoo!

Now to get it home. Wonder if the wheels still rotate?
If I can get it on a trailer the first trip will be to a steam cleaner to get it out from its coat of dirt and moss.
Looks like it is in a jungle rather than our normally dry prairie!

Congratulations on a nice find! That's not the truck that was sitting around the campground at Sydney for years is it?
Coincidentally, I was just yesterday admiring Joe Greenberg's very nicely and tidily restored Cab 11 Ford here in Winnipeg at the Canada (nee Dominion) Day events in Assiniboine Park. His restoration of the box alone is quite a saga.

I've often wondered what happened to the truck @ Sydney.

This one has been on the same farm since it turned civy post WWII. I'll have to have a good look around for the bumper and pintle.

I'll have to have a look at Joe Greenberg's unit sometime to see what an 11 should look like.

I think a good straight pull will get the CMP out of the bush . I don't know if the wheels will rotate. If they do it should be easy to get it home. It is only 5 miles. If not I'll skid it onto a trailer.
Probably trailer it anyway as I don't know what condition the axles are in. If I get the front onto the trailer deck and pull the rear shafts it should roll with out turning the gearing.

I think the King of the Obsolete might have wandered over from the "Looks Like I'm Screwed" thread, which deals with Tampa Jonnie's conundrum about how to get his 15cwt from here the tornado zone (there were some not so far from Derk's today) to the hurricane zone.

I'm thinking it could be as big a move to get that trailer from Lynn Lake to Niverville as it would be from N’ville to Tampa.

Better move fast John - Derk said on Friday it looked like he might have a buyer for his place!

we are coming south with a trailer load of goodies for john mcnarry plus some goodies for my dad. (they only live 7 miles apart and my mom works at shilo with clive, small world, LOL)

also i lined up a semi to haul the cmp for jonnie to tampa for $1200.00, don't know what happened there but i thought it was cheap for the distance. even told him not to shipp in the spring or winter so the cmp didn't get road salt all over it. wait till summer and have a nice clean cmp arriveat your door step.

john, not sure when coming done but you will be getting lots of goodies so make sure the couch is cleaned off so the wife will be making you sleep there, LOL

Hi King, just cleaned out the shop to get back to working on the 3 tonner and got the royal Enfield out and ready to ride. so If I have to go solo a while I can always sleep in the truck. Lol

This might get things going,but as far as axles go didnt G.M build timken style axles and Ford built banjo style axles as well as each others own type. Thats my understanding from one of the parts books. (I'll just go away now and get my tin hat and body armour.)

Although it is common knowledge Ford and GM supplied parts to each others assembly lines to keep them going in the early days, I have only seen one reference to this practice (although I am sure more can be found - yes this is a challenge!): Ford Illustrated Spare Parts List F15-A 15 cwt-4x4 (SE. 114, Issued May, 1943) which "applies to the 15 Cwt. 4 x4 15A model designation C011WQ and C291WQ" states that "Ford design front axle C111WQF-3000-A2 and G.M. design rear axle C011WQ-4000 were used with the following motor serial numbers", followed by a list of only 43 numbers, all in the 2G-5...-F and 2G-6...F range. This confirms a small number (43, to be precise) F15As were fitted with a combination of Ford front and G.M. rear axles.

The Ford parts book SE39-42 only makes reference to GM front axles only for the F15A (C011WQF-3000 A2 GM Cast design, 6.5: gears and C011WQF-3000 B2 Pressed design, 6.5:1 gears), yet makes reference to GM rear axles in both 6.5:1 and 7.2: ratios for the heavier types of 4x4 CMP (C01Q 4000 A 7.2 Cast, C01Q 4000 B 7.2 Pressed, C011WQ 4000 6.5 pressed). It would seem that the GM front axle was only ever fitted to F15As.
The parts book describes these GM axles as having removable housing covers, when it was only the Pressed steel design that had the removable cover. The famous picture below shows an early 11 Cab F15A with the GM Cast front axle.

is the thread that previously discussed the subject in part. My interest is in whether the 'F15s' that Dr Gregg described as being assembled in the CMD, Southampton, were in fact as we now know F30S chassis, but with GM or Ford front axles. Dr Gregg ascerted the former but was he with the utmost respect incorrect? I cannot see any diff types but others might!

The 43 Fords mentioned by Hanno were 1941 Models and thus could not possibly have been assembled in Southampton.

The 11 cab F15a I just bought has GM axles under both ends.
Don't see the re-enforcing ribs as in the above post.
Personally I like the GM style as it is easier to work on.

I have almost decided that I have too many projects on the go and wondered if any of you would be interested in the 11cab above.
I haven't recovered it from its resting place yet but will sometime next month.
