Joint Operation! Tim Hortons & Canadian Forces Announce Opening in Afghanistan
OAKVILLE, ON, March 8 /CNW/ - Tim Hortons and the Canadian Military are
pleased to announce that a Tim Hortons store will open at Kandahar airfield
within the next few months.
"We are extremely proud to be able to bring a little taste of home to our
troops stationed in Kandahar," said Paul House, Chief Executive Officer and
President for Tim Hortons. "Tim Hortons has always supported the Canadian
Military and we are honoured to work together to make the opening possible."
Over the next few weeks, Tim Hortons will convert a trailer normally used
during restaurant renovations, and deliver it to the Canadian Forces for use
in Afghanistan. Once operational, military personnel will be able to purchase
select baked goods and beverages, including Tim Hortons' legendary coffee.
The Canadian Forces Personnel Support Agency, the morale and welfare arm
of the Canadian Forces, will be responsible for staffing, training and
operating the location at the Kandahar airfield.
"I know I speak for all the men and women of the Canadian Forces when I
say that I'm delighted to hear this news," said General Rick Hillier, Chief of
the Defence Staff. "Opening a Tim Hortons to serve our troops in Afghanistan
strengthens an already superb relationship between two great Canadian
institutions. I would like to thank Tim Hortons for their endless support of
the Canadian Forces over the years."
Serving those who serve: the Canadian Forces Personnel Support Agency
enhances the morale and welfare of the military community, thus contributing
to the operational readiness and effectiveness of the Canadian Forces. For

the whole country is a gun range for both incoming and outgoing. The trailer is on the base which would also have a range, it may become a special target of its own when the locals find out about it and its importance to the Cdn troops. Gun range , quite appropriate I think. Or first Tim's involved in a live fire shoot. 1ST Tim's in a war zone...definitely a growth industry, anyone up for a franchise?

You can have your Krispy Kreme and your Dunkin' Donuts! Neither of them can hold a candle to Tim Horton's!...one of the first places I head to when back in Canada. Unfortunately, Tim Hortons only has stores on the East coast of the U.S. The Timmy's in Stephenville, Nfld quadrupled their sales during Op Marcot, the line of Iltis', LSVW's, ML's, and HL's went around the block every morning. Poor locals couldn't get near the place. Having a Tim Horton's in Kandahar will do wonders for morale. Now, when is Don Cherry heading over?

ROLL UP THE RIM TO WIN!!!

I read the news headliners about this ... and wondered about the wisdom of the location, also wondering about the potential danger to soldiers who may hang out there sipping coffee ...

... but "my little joke" was directed to certain someones in here (no names mentioned ) who HATE Tim Horton's ... probably the "trendiness" of it? Personally I like the coffee there and had my first iced-capuccino there and loved it I didn't even know to "roll up the rim to win" for the coffees though ... just turfed the cups after I was done ... maybe I turfed a winner :

Don't throw that Tim Horton's cup out, or pass one by that hasn't had the "rim rolled up" ...

By CP
(Who's the Winner ... Tim Horton's)

Quote:
MONTREAL -- Two families are fighting over a vehicle valued at almost $29,000 after their daughters discovered a winning Tim Hortons coffee cup.

The dispute began after a 10-year-old girl named Marilou found the cup in the garbage bin of her elementary school in St-Jerome, north of Montreal.

Remembering the coffee chain's popular contest, she tried to roll up the rim but was unable to do so. She asked the help of a 12-year-old schoolmate.

The older girl rolled up the rim and found it was a winner. The prize is a Toyota RAV4 SUV with a base price of $28,700, one of 30 vehicles being given away as prizes in the roll-up-the-rim contest.

"They took the cup to the school's day-care service, and a teacher called both parents," said Nathalie Prevost, mother of the 12-year-old girl. She declined to name her daughter.

"The first parent to arrive there was Marilou's father, so he took the cup," she said.

Prevost thought her daughter deserved some recognition and she decided to call a local radio station to ask for legal advice.

"I wanted the name of a lawyer who could tell me if my daughter is entitled to some of the prize."

Neither can claim prize

Tim Hortons spokesman Greg Skinner couldn't confirm if the cup is a winner because the prize had not been claimed. But he said the winner of the prize is whoever submits the cup's tab.

"If I buy you a coffee and you get a winning cup, it's your car," Skinner said. "I might be mad at you as your best friend but you're the winner."

However, because the girls are minors, Skinner noted, neither of them can claim the vehicle as a prize.

Marilou's father, who remained anonymous, said in a televised broadcast he wanted to give some money from the sale of the car to Prevost's family.

"But this morning they said they wanted everything, so now they'll lose it all because they went too far," he said.

But Prevost said she's not seeking a specific amount. "It's not for me. It's for my daughter's education. I never wanted this to blow up the way it has."

Prevost said she doesn't plan to go to court but hopes the other family will recognize her daughter's part in their luck.

"At least I hope the parents save the money for their daughter's education and don't spend it for themselves," Prevost said.

As for the girls, they had a bit of a spat at school but their teachers got them speaking to each other again, she said. "They weren't very close friends to begin with."

While the two families have not resolved the matter, the situation could get more complicated.

CBC-TV's The National reported yesterday a staff member who may have thrown the cup away is said to be considering legal action. But it would a tough battle.

"The person who threw out that coffee cup, they gave up on it. It's gone, you cannot find who it was," lawyer Jordan Charness told The National.
(I wonder if I threw out a winner before knowing to roll up the rim??? )

I didn't think that "Bugger" ,with my name beside it ,reflected my original intention to pass on good news of our troops in Afganistan...
And Ma...it is a bugger to throw away a wining Timmies cup ,even if it is a donut..
(For those that don't know what we are talking about ,Tim Horton's is a coffee chain that has prizes printed on the cups and you have to Roll Up THe Rim to Win,..
Someone threw away a big winner,a Toyota RAV and a little girl found it in the garbage..)

Hey, you can ask no sweat, my response was informational not a rebuke, gotta turn down the sensitivity dial.
Shamus is going to be 1.5 years old next week, wow! He is a little person to be sure. Powered on sunlight and poop I think because he does not stop going from eye open to eye shut . He is very playful and loves everything, in both food and experiences. Loves the store , going out, the cat, running outside, people ,kids etc etc. He is easy to feed , pretty much eats what we eat. Loves to read , he will stop chasing the cat mid step and run and get a book and bring it to mom or papa to read. I can go on and on as you can imagine, I am going to miss my baby when he gets to be a teenager

Hey, that kid eats food like my kids used to!!! Ya bring back very good  memories. Your wee son radiates spark and smarts ... you'll have your hands full when he hits the teens ... build your bridges and keep 'em strong from birth is what I like to say I love having the photographs to conjure up memories of all the phases and growth ... pulling out the albums when me and my kids are together can do wonders to "reconnect those lovin' feelin's" when things be a tad tense ... it worked more than not for me and mine Nothing wrong with a little emotional manipulation if it gets things back on track?

I wasn't being sensitive ... just responding, so there I didn't take upset, just figured you may have misunderstood my atty-tude and figured I should say something

Shamus really is looking good and sparky-happy ... thanks for posting the pics Papa Snowtractor.

I find it a real drag to hear that some guy suddenly now claims that that coffee cup the kid found was his and he's trying to claim the prize, and the other kid who helped the little girl roll up the win (or her folks) is also fighting to claim the prize.

My understanding is the guy turfed the cup in the garbage ... so the kid who "found it" and reaped the reward is the true "winner" ... the kid who helped her just helped her.

As far as I'm concerned, the kid who found it is the winner and the "prize" should be in trust if they can claim a cash prize rather than the vehicle (she's too young to drive) ... it will be interesting to see how Tim Horton's handles this ... and the goonie lawyers are in there like flint going after the fees, of course. I also don't see this as the parents prize, therefore IN TRUST for that kids best inetersts.

There was a poll in Canoe about this ... "who should get the prize" ... last I saw it was a huge landslide in favor of the kis who found the cup.

My cousin won 5.5 million once on 649 ... back in about 1989. The prize was shared with her husband and kids ... one kid being underage at the time of claiming the prize. Her portion went into trust until she came of age ... which really was only a couple of years for her to wait for her $617,000.oo part

I hope this thingw ith this kid gets settled real fast in her favor without lawyers reaping lots of the prize in fees.

Also ... if a cash prize possible, I'd see the kid who helped got a bit of a kickback for that too.

Default The cup/...

Ma...
Tim Hortons have entered the cup fray and have said that they will present the prize to whoever brings them the cup...
Legal opinion is once the cup has been discarded,it becomes the finders...
It is $30,000.00 truck we are talking about..
Common sense should tell the assistant rim roller and the janitor that threw away the cup that if they want to persue this prize ,it will cost them big$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$..to get it to court...
Ethically ,their lawyers should tell them this right off the bat, first thing....
As soon as these two parties called in lawyers,it cost them a minimum of $500.00 retainer..up front and GONE....non refundable...
KA-CHING!!!!
The clock is running at a minimum of $200.00 -250.00 /hr..
Every call...
KA-CHING!!!!
Every piece of correspondence....
KA-CHING!!!!!
Is a prize worth $30,000.00 worth fighting in court over...???
Only to those lawyers...
I'll bet that they have spent a minimum of $2000.00 allready...
Lawyers and undertakers love making money from other peoples misfortunes...
That is why they are so hated...
Right behind murderers, child molesters, drug dealers and then lawyers...but way ahead of polititions....

Default a 30,000 dollar truck ...

...that you might sell for 22k if you can find a buyer with enough money that the bank would give them a loan. Most banks only want to finance a non new vehicle to 75%. When this one is picked up and driven off, its non-new anymore.

Default Getting back to Afghanistan !

Let 's consider the following for discussion:

1)What about all those military police G-wagons blocking the entrance of Tim Horton's trailer at six AM as the troopers are going for their cuppa-cuppa ??
2)They'll have to enlarge the parking lot in front when the local Afghani police find out about our north american police traditions
3)What about the donut supply after all these early morning crowds have devoured the stock??
4)Do you realize how many extra flights our over-extended C-130 Hercules air force aircraft will have to make in order to stop this crowd from becoming unruly in order to keep Timmy's in stock with coffee and batter for donuts ?? ??

Would you send a sleepy soldier in harm's way because he couldn't get his morning fix.Let us be real people!!

Any way , end of rant for discussion. This has made me thirsty AND hungry.By the way , Timmy's has a new turkey sub on a bun wtih beef sauce and a minestrone soup thrown in.SORRY I have to go now to do my ER! shopping.

Nice kid ,by the way...
Shamus..good Ukranian name...
The truck....don't forget the 7% sales tax they will pay when they go to register it...or 8% in Q-bec,I think...Another $2,000 or so...
That thing is going to look good in some lawyers drive way...

I was a college student working part time at a liquor store for the L.C.B. back in the '70's. I remember when the D.N.D. got rid of their reserves of rum and the B.C. government sold 40 oz. bottles of Proof rum made from that stock for a very low price. The limit was two bottles and we sold out in little over one day. I wish I had kept one of my bottles as memoribilia, but try telling a 21 year old to not drink a bottle of booze! I've been looking for a SRD ceramic bottle to come up for sale for my display, but have never seen one. Ever see any for sale?
