Default David Hayward, RIP

It is with deep regret, I have to inform you all, that one of our stalwart forum members, David Hayward, has passed away following a sudden heart attack and several days illness.
David was a mine of information on Ford and GM products from the war years and had researched the subject deeply. He was also co-editor of Vintage Roadscene magazine, and encouraged me to write a series of articles for it. David will also be remembered for the book, Pearsons of Liverpool on their warwork.

RIP David

Quite true Robert. I had actually sent him an article last week, for his magazine and had a cheery email response on Friday, sadly this must have been shortly before he had his heart attack.

Unhappy loss

David's passing is a true loss in every sense of the word. We have lost a family member, an amazingly knowledgeable man and a an inspiration to many. The MLU community just became a little poorer. RIP David.

Default What a great lost......

Rest in Peace David.

He was such a wealth of information and always had time to respond to our (mine also) enquiries...... I can't believe he is gone..... what a shock.... all that knowledge forever gone...... hardly seems fair.

I will miss his ongoing contribution to the hobby.

Default He will be missed, our condolences to his family

This is one of those strange things about the MLU brotherhood, we have friends that though we may never have met them face to face we mourn their passing.

Just took some time to read at random some of David's many posts to discussions, and in doing so realized that once again we have lost another unique perspective on our common interest.

Thanks David for adding to our collective knowledge.

Default sad news

On behalf of the OMVA i wish to convey my sympathy to David's friends and family.

David provided a plethora of information to myself on assembly and manufacture info on CMP's as well as convinced me to buy one of his books. Which i have no regrets.

With his permission, some of his articles were published in CMP Magazine.

thanks

Eric

Richard only just found this posting, it is indeed sad news, our thoughts are with the family and friends at this time. I'll always remember David as he identified the cab 11 that we picked up years ago.

Default Sad news

Only just picked this up, I never meet David face to face but over the years we swapped information on early 11 and 12 cab Chevs. Very sad news indeed, David's extensive data base and literary contribution to the historic vehicle movement as a whole are a fitting legacy.
My thoughts are with his family.

Pete

Default Very Senior Member.....

Out of respect to the Hayward family and those of the forum, I have to admit tonight, that David was like the Grandfather of the forum, not in age but in wisdom! I had to chuckle, and correct me if I'm wrong, that this gentleman went from " Senior Member" to " Very Senior Member". That term always amused me, but as the years went by I suddenly realized the strength behind the word "senior". Just recently, I was in the process of madly hunting down a carburator for my C60L, having pondered website after web site, phoning supplier after supplier until eventually my findings on the internet led to this forum and a discussion between Bob Carriere and David about CMP engines. And I was amazed to find out through the correspondence between these 2 gentlemen, (and Bob....I'm using that loosely on your behalf....) that out of nowhere, David doing his homework, as always, shone a new light on the current engine in my truck.

Bob and I have spoken since then and yes we did have a long talk of the void that, unfortunately, is now left on this forum.

Having never met the man, having never corresponded with him, but always having the sincere pleasure of reading his "fireside chats" on the forum, I thank you David. Robert Morrison Vancouver B.C.

We lost a great source of priceless detailed information and wisdom when he left this world.

Sadly missed.

Default Ten years already

Time flies! It is already a little over ten years ago since David passed away.

Time to bring him back from oblivion by pointing out some of his work that can still be found online, thankfully: David Hayward's Automotive History website

PS: I wonder if anyone ever read his thesis?

Great photo of the late David Hayward made by Keith Webb:

Going through some old photographs I took in England in 2004, here's one of the late David Hayward whom I met briefly when he came out to the airfield. David was a very dedicated historian and researched a lot of information on CMPs.

He was a true gentleman indeed. I have done a search for his thesis in the past but came up trumps.

At last some of his research can still be found on David Hayward's Automotive History website: http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=17015
