Talking A Special Thread Just For Carman aka 'Yappy' - Military Terms - Lesson 101

Carman;

Earlier today, on another thread, you stated that you did not understand "Military Talk", well, consider this to be 'Lesson 101 - Military Talk For Dummies'. The first term we'll deal with is the most important one, when it comes to someone not understanding "Military Talk", has you call it. But first, a threshold knowledge test to see what you know on the subject of Military terms.

Question # 1: - What is the Military term for someone, like yourself, who doesn't understand "Military Talk" at all ?

I await your answer, and please fellow MLU members, No helping 'Little Miss Yappy' with her answer.

Cheers

Unhappy Uhhhh.... Mark....

Hate to break it to you old boy, but over the years I've learned NOT to antagonize hot-blooded women. They have pointy teeth and sharp claws, which in my experience, they are increasingly inclined to use, especially with advancing years.

Conduct thyself accordingly, sir... and dinnae say I didnae warn ye...

Default Oooooo.....

That IS harsh. Be on your guard, young man... hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

Be happy she's here -- Yappy is one of us now, whether she knows what we do or not. I just wish she could have made it to CC3... ah well, one of these days. It might be fair sport to watch her fangs rip out your living tissue and devour it...

Does this mean we should address her has "Seven of Nine" now, or something along those lines, or should she be issued a Call Sign?

Talking Star Trek?

I'm no Trekky I rarely watch TV, but hey, that could change soon as I get cable with my new digs
Oh PLEASE let there be the HISTORY CHANNEL available!

There is also NO extra phone line so will have to share the owners phone for now ... what this will do to my net life, I don't know yet. I'd certainly be more limited as to how long/often I'm online, but hey, you all haven't really had a chance to MISS ME YET, as I never go away Maybe it's TIME to go away so I can find out how much you all TRULY miss me???

1) Vet as in WW2 vet (in reference to my dad tho he didn't serve overseas... bad feet... hisbrothersandsister did though, but Dad did serve in Sargeants capacity here in Canada, doing what? I haven't a clue YET)

2) Dottir as in CORRECT ... Islandic/Icelandic daughter ... my daddy was a Jonasson ... connected to one Governor of Island ...Hafsteinn Jonasson ... dad's middle name is Hafsteinn, named after that Gov. Another close relative to my grand father "Joi", I call Syggy - Sygtriggur Jonasson brought the first Islandic settlers here to settle New Iceland. Or so the stories go Syggy is referred to as "The Father of New Iceland" Or so the stories go. Cool stories.

Another cool story ... my youngest daughter is related to another "Father of" ... but this guy is known as "The Fatha of the Blues" ... WC Handy hisself. Digging in the family roots cellars can sure bring up some neatold roots, eh?

Ah .... SO... Stellan my fine friend ... a chain telling another chain to please not smoke...: that must come from the wisdom that grows with age and experience?
That's your story and yore stickin' to it?

Yes, It sure can.

In 1974 I met my "Java Tiger". She is an orphan since WW 2. So I began looking for her roots. We knew that her father had been murdered on Tarakan Island by the Japanese. We also knew that her grandfather had been in the Netherlands East Indies Army (KNIL). But the rest?

Nowadays we know most of the whole family story. I am writing a book on this - no fiction is needed.

So it were the roots of my wife that brought me to research the KNIL. During the research work I came across the KNIL-Vets association. After a while they selected me as a member (the only one who was not Dutch and the only one that never had served in the KNIL). They did not select me on my merits - but on my wifes´. During WW 2 her family lost 5 NCOs in the KNIL plus possibly another three - my research goes on.

So I became an adopted "Anak KNIL" - a child of the KNIL. But her only surviving aunt who got 100 yrs old some months ago is a real anak KNIL. Born in the outpost (looked like a fort in Wild West movies) Lho Sekoen in Atjeh, N Sumatra, in the year of 1904. There was a war going on in Atjeh and there is still one going on in 2004.

If I remember right US did occupy Island during WW 2.

Take care,

Stellan

Default Java Tiger?

Excellent. God ... I LOVE this place. I NEVER know what interesting things people will post.

Can you please explain "Java Tiger" to me? What does it mean, and how did your wife come by this?

I'm also very interested in the book you are writing ... please keep us posted Stellan.

Thank you ... Vets_Dottir Karmen

Default Java Tiger

They say that the Java Tiger does not exist anymore. That´s wrong. I know. I am married to one.

Tiger: A nice spinning cat - but beware - one false move and you have a roaring tiger.

Java: She was born on Java. (We met in Stockholm).

Attached photo: From the family history of the Tiger. The Radja of Boni (South Celebes/Sulawesi) Krang Segeri Lapawawooi (carried down the ladder) beeing arrested by the KNIL 18th Oct 1905. The Radja was father of my wifes grandmother - and her grandfather was a Sergeant-Major taking part in the hunt for the Radja!

Chiao,

Stellan
