M38A1 Dash Lights
Does anyone know what the correct style of dash lights are in a M38A1 CDN2?
This blackout style: Or this shield style: Thanks, Rick |

The top one is correct for the later Cdn2 and 3 jeeps. The lower one is for the 50s vehicles.

The plastic lens has a painted cover, an unpainted "ring", and a washer. Screw it in and go blackout. Screw it out partway and read the gauges. They work quite well.

Great info, I actually had no idea that you could screw them in and out for blackout.

Tsk tsk terry, you are giving out bad advise. They were supposed to be screwed in all the way with their rubber gasket. The light travels from under behind the panel and through the little windows in the sides of the gauges.
There were several variants of the lenses. Some were capped solid (as you show) and these were for the panel lights. Others just had the little dimple at the end opened and these were used for indicator lights, like the high beam. Others were solid translucent red and would be used for things like warning lights for over temp on transmissions etc (but not on the jeeps). |
