Default Canada and the Liberation of Holland

I just noticed on the TV listings that there is a show called “Canada and the Liberation of Holland” on Global tonight (30 Apr.) at 8pm.

I think that there is also a book out now in book stores with the same title.

Default Just taped it!!

I just watched & taped it(2 hours) for a veteran's widow,who is now in a retirement home.Hell,I don't even know her name.What struck me was,at the end,a veteran pointed out his "THank You Canada" liberation medal given by the Dutch government.After this,the dutch gentleman who organizes the Apeldoorn parade each May 5th,stated that all Canadian soldiers,who helped liberate his country gets one.Now,I don't know if you have to show up in Holland to get one,BUT!!
Then I started thinking of vets who were there who didn't get one:
Mr Munday-Engineers-Suicily/Italy/The Continent
Mr Fogarty-Grenadier Guards/The Continent
Donald Dickson-Black Watch=The Continent(deceased)
Carl Lyons-Black Watch-The Continent(deceased)
Mr Christie-Royal Canadian Artillary-The Continent(deceased)
Mr Moore-Black Watch-The Continent(deceased)
Bob Snook-Three Rivers Regiment-The Continent(deceased)
Steve Williams-RCHA-Sicily/Italy/The Continent
Cecil Williams-RCHA-Sicily/Italy-The Continent(deceased)
Des Connelly-RCASC-Sicily/Italy/THeContinebt(deceased)
Jimmy Shipton-RCASC-Sicily/Italy/The Continent(deceased)
Jim Evans-Black Watch-The Continent
The lady's husband(whose name I don't even know-The Continent)deceased
Now these names are only a spur of the moment thought.If I sit down & think a little while longer,there's gonna be a lot of liberation medals never pro-offered.
Anyhow,just a thought on my part

Garry;

Not 'all' Canadian Veterans received this 'Liberation' medal, the details of which came out after the fact. I can also write a list of vets who never received this nor even heard of it until after the fact, my Father and two Uncles included.

Cheers

Hi John;

The 'show' and the book are one in the same. It's by the same team that did the 'Juno' book/video.

Cheers
