Default Remains of LRDG Vehicles?

Hello,

The following URL's have recently been posted on Missing Lynx and refer to interesting Italian material regarding LRDG trucks.

They have photos of recently located parts of trucks that these Italians beleive are from LRDG trucks.

http://www.sahara.it/padovafuoristrada4x4/lorry/

http://www.sahara.it/padovafuoristrada4x4/sirtico/

Can anybody on this list recognize the various component parts and confirm that they are from trucks from the correct period?

Regards

Nick Balmer

1941 Chev and 1942 Ford parts there. May be LRDG but also may be standard army 4X2 trucks.

Time period is right.

The picture of the truck in the paper is a 1939/40 Ford half ton pickup.

What makes these folk think they are LRDG?

cheers
Cliff

Hello Cliff & Vegimite,

Like you too, I was not entirely sure that these trucks could be labelled definitely as LRDG as there were masses of ex military trucks left in the Middle East after the conflict, and many of these must have ended up in civilian use just as they have in places like Burma until very recently.

Another travel website run by Fliegel Jezericky Expeditions has two absolutely fascinating articles with photograpghs of supply chain lorries which were running from Wadi Haifa to Kufra and beyond in support not so much of the LRDG but of the Free French.

This site also has photos by Bimbashi (capt.) Arkwright who was Commanding Officer of the No.1. Motor Machine Gun Battery of the SDF, occupying Bir Murr at Uweinat in 1934. Some photos show Almásy, as well as the ascent of Uweinat.

Enjoy.

This is the front of a Chevrolet 30-cwt 1533x2, the LRDG's mainstay patrol vehicle for almost two years...

Interesting finds, Nick! I'll ask Kuno what he knows about them.

If I'm no mistaken, this truck is featured on my VHS tape at the end of the El Alamein documentary,as shown,up on a pedestal,at the entrance to the Commonwealth cemetary.I'll check out the tape to see if this is in fact the same truck.

Default FORD L60

1) The FORD L60 has been found WITHOUT the cabin in the 80ies. It was still loaded with boxes full of explosives (those have been removed...)

2) Either, they have "restored" it recently or there is another FORD on display at EL ALAMEIN. For me it seems to be another truck.

3) Not every FORD or CHEVY has been used by the LRDG...
