Scott,

Please see the attached images from the Design Record of Canadian-Developed Military Vehicles World War II.

The height was approx 31” with variations between manufacturers.

Hi Colin,
Do you have the data for 10.5 - 16" tyres too? Also for sand tyres?
Cheers

The variations apply just as much today across different manufacturers. Here are 3 new-production 9.00-13 tyres; Left Olympic Sand Grip 30.5", Middle Bridgestone Alligator (uninflated) 29.75", right MRF Sand 30.75".

I don't think mounting the Bridgestone to a rim and inflating it would go over 30".

I agree with Tony that there were significant variations between manufacturers but as a rough rule of thumb, tires of that era were 100% profile (as tall as wide) so a 10.50-16 would be 16" (the rim) +2x10.5" (the tire) = 37" tall.

Having said this, the 9.25-16 used on the C8A (C8AX too?) were shorter than the 9.00-16 used on 15 cwts. I don't know of anything in the size designator to let one know this was a "low profile" tire.

Do you have a thread profile or photo of the three or ony of the 9,00x 13 tires.

I have a couple of Firestone 9.00-13, but they are not a desert/sand pattern. I have never seen a Dominion or Goodrich WW2 pattern, Dunlop seems to be the most common.

Scott,

Attached are some more images from the Design Record.

I do not know for certain, but I believe it is likely the the “distinct” tread designs from the various manufacturers were standard amongst the different tire sizes (Tony’s Firestone 9.00-13 tread appears the same as the Firestone 10.50-16 shown below).

While Sand Tread tires are mentioned in the design record, they receive little attention, are not detailed in the comparison charts, and there is only the attached image (in the Tire and Wheel Data section).

Charlie,

Attached is larger version of the previously posted chart which includes the 10.50-16 dimensions

Default tires

thanks again for all the great info. Tires have become a big Headache for me. I can use 14' instead of 13" rims as there are more tire options however tires still all look to modern. Just kills the look. thanks
