Hypoid Gear oil without the Modern extreme pressure additives which effect brass. Withams is down the road from me, I use there products.

I would be very concerned about any oil with 'EP' in its name due to concerns about it attacking brass / bronze. You certainly don't need any form of high performance oil in that gearbox so use an ordinary gear oil of the same viscosity specified in the manual. It may be that the Withams oil in Alastair's post above specificaly states that it is suitable for use with yellow metals but if not I would not risk it. I have seen selector forks that have been exposed to EP oil for quite a short time and the wearing surface had been destroyed far more than running with no oil would have done.

Thank you Lynn,
The gearbox that I was refering to was a Bedford one and that had a bronze bush between the input and output shafts and that had almost disapeared despite having been fine about 200 miles before. David |

I think it’s an SAE 90 oil you need (safe for bronze bushes) rather than an EP 90.
