Puzzled
I have often wondered if the 15cwt trucks would have ever worn the 20" tires in the old days - is this what you have planned for a restoration?

Winch
G'day Charlie
Looks like you're planning to "gun tractor" a F15A chassis... Do you have a FGT body???

Hi Stewart and Keith.
Planning a usable truck. No FGT body unfortunately. I reckon 10.00 or 11.00 X 20 tyres will give reasonable road speed with 6.5 diffs and 2speed t'fer box will attend to slow going. Hooroo Charlie |

Tyres
The 20" rims and 6.5 diffs are a reasonable combination although you'll find yourself shifting gears earlier on hills of course. I've found (on a Chev) that even with 12.00 20 tyres you could still do with another gear on downhill runs.
The 12.00 tyres are quite a lot larger than 11.00. You'll have trouble shifting to low on hard surfaces unless you remove your front driveshaft (which is a good thing on road trips) or re-rig your transfer case shift with a separate front axle declutch. Shuffling low to high in the transfer case is similar to changing gears in the crash box but the lever has a longer throw.

Re: Tyres

Will a 12.00 tire fit on the 10.50 x 20 inch rim, or does some other vehicle need to donate rims for this combination? Do any of the beads need to be ground - or similar foolishness?? I bet that the huge 12x20's would be fun to parallell park downtown, without power steering! And think of the ground clearance ... Stewart |

Re: Re: Tyres

The 12.00 tyres we get fit straight on without modification to the rims - they used to be plentiful due to the large numbers of ACCO trucks in use by the army here. On a Ford the right front tyre will polish the end of the pitman arm in tight turns but is OK on a Chev as in this shot of Euan's CGT:

Good pic Keith.
Have started to consider a GT type body, or radio van type. Are there plans or good line drawings available. Have to be better than the tray and canvas I had initially planned. Would the 6.5 diffs pull the 12.00 X 20's OK. Are the V8's and gearbox ratios the same in F15s as in F60's. Hooroo Charlie. |

Hi Charlie
As I mentioned, the V8 will move the F15A OK but just won't accellerate quite as well - I use the word "accellerate" in a relative sense. The gearboxes are identical throughout the range of Ford CMPs from 8 CWT to 60 CWT as are the Chevs, even the C60X with the GMC 270 uses the same 4 speed box as other Chevs. As for drawings, how about this? No complete set exists as far as is known, but if you have a look at my page on the subject, as well as some of the reference images you should have a reasonable idea of what to make.

Morning all.
Have obtained all I was after, in the form of a F60L, complete. What is interesting to me is some F60's have the ' light' front axle with the flat base mounted steering box, while others have the ' heavy', 6", front axle with a cresent mounted steering box. The cab on this one is free of rust except for the internal rail above the windscreens. How do you attach pictures? Hooroo Charlie. |

Nice find
Looks like you could use some steering components!
Can you decypher the Army Registration Number on the front shell? Starts with a 5? It looks like a 1942 or 43 model vehicle.

Hi all
I am curious as to what the dothotfolder means in front of the thread title on the forum thread list. Doesn't appear in the key at the bottom. Hooroo Charlie |
