License plates on military vehicles

This is a bit of a spin off from Mike Dorosh's post about WD numbers, CAR,CFR.

Before the current reflective white and green plates were used, Ontario used the brown and white "F" plate.

Something that always puzzled me was that, in Gagetown, New Brunswick for example, the military vehicles all carried the provincial plate.

Does any-one know what each province's protocol was WRT to plating the rolling stock?
