ford vs chevy frame HELP
Hi, I need to know, If I had a F15a can I transfer everything over to a chevy frame of the same size,
There seems to be a difference with the front cross member, are the main bolt locations the same for say the Ford shocks etc. How about the spring length etc. The reason being that I have found a mint Chev frame and would like to use it for my Ford project, It has a winch location and heavy duty tow bar, It has to be worth it though because my truck is half assembled. There are a few weak spots in my frame. HELP! Rob

Perhaps the easiest thing might be to find someone with a good F15A frame who desperately needs a C15A one... Not sure about springs but one of the biggest problems will be mounting the engine - they are totally different there as the Ford front mounts are different as they use the two water pumps as mounts, and the gearbox will cause some headaches as a Ford mounts into the cross member, although you might be able to use a rear gearbox mount from a conventional truck, but it probably won't wind up in the same place. The shock absorbers are also completely different, as is the bumper mount. I think you're asking for a lot of grief - not to mention the truck will always be worth a lot less as a bitzer. I have a good F15A frame available... pity you guys exported it 60 years ago!

Those are exactly the things I wanted to hear, by looking at it, it looked like a hard job.
It makes replacing two crossmembers in my Ford frame sound a lot easier! Thankyou Keith Rob

also
also the chassis rails on a chev taper in at the front making it norrower where the engine sits. This allows for the chev to mount their front springs on the outside of the chassis rail.

how about the....
Do you Guys think the winch crossmember is the same width as the Ford and what do I have to do to my transfer case crossmember to make the 2 speed I've got fit?

If that frame is the same length as your F15 then it must be a gun tractor frame if it has the winch mount. If that's the case maybe you should get it and not cannibalize it as these are hard to find. Just my 2 cents worth.

Hmmm, not being a Chev fanatic I can't say for certain, but didn't all the 101" Chev chassis have the winch crossmember and brackets fitted regardless of vehicle type?

Is this true, all 101" chevs had winch crossmembers.
I think you may be right because the chev I was wanting to take this crossmember out of has a one speed transfercase and no evidence of a winch ever being bolted up. Even if it was there It doesnt have a pto to run off of. Rob

C15A' Winch' crossmember
My C15A And several others that I know of locally certainly have the so called 'winch' cross member, but definently would never of had a winch. As you pointed out they only have a single speed transfer case and no possible way of driving a power take off.Never really thought why they used it. May be some one knows???
