40mm Bofors Rounds
Does any one have color photos or color plates showing the paint color/markings on WWII Canadian 40mm Bofors rounds?

Oh boy, here we go.
Just so every one knows, its all Robs fault and it has been for quite a few years now. Rob is the reason my wife didn't speak to me for 2 days after the Boys rifle came home, I don't know what will happen when the new project arrives. |

Wives and sweethearts (may they never meet)
Being a single rat I derive great amusement from the many excuses you married types use to explain our illness- RATS- Rusty Army Truck Syndrome.
I can sympathise, as I once rolled up to my folks' place with a bofors in tow and deployed it on the lawn before they got home, my Dad- a retired Gunner himself was pleased as punch but Mum popped several gaskets- Boobie- what see-ment do we use on Mum main seals? That whole story will go in the longest recovery thread! I just tell people its a disease that is less likely to kill me than the ones I would suffer from if I spent the same time, effort and money in a bar or a whorehouse! Brad, if she is really pissed off you are welcome to hide it at my place... we can practice troop deployments and shoot tennis balls at the gliders that circle my fields looking for thermals. I'll start cleaning up the guest room for you.... a month should be just about enough time to get the books and uniforms and parts and models and .... Mike

Geeze,
I'm sure we all have stories to tell of showing up home with "some great new find". My wife is very tollarant of the situation and has somewhat grown accustomed to it. I guess its because she grew up in Belfast and became use to all the green stuff rolling around. I must say the Boys did raise an eyebrow...the first in quite some time...it kind of surprised me actually. Perhaps her reaction just caught me off guard. One little tip, once you have one item, like a dewat sten or Bren, just keep moving them around all the time in the house and make sure she notices it. That way you can bring more and more of them home and she will think its the same one. I always think that the hobby is cheaper then having a girlfrind, especially if your married ;-) Mike, just in case she finds this thread, you better clean up the guest room. |

10/11 Aug Recovery
Hi Brad:
I have a dental appointment downtown at 1045 on 10 Aug. I'll stand down at noon so we can head down to Georgetown. I can't reset the dental as it is imperative in order for me to deploy to Africa in Sep. I take it you'll arrive on Thu 9 Aug and stay overnight or do you want to arrive Fri morning and we leave from my place shortly after noon? You MUST stay over Sat night so we can look at all the Bofors stuff! We will be able to get a photo of three Bofors together as I currently have the O.Q.F. 40-mm. C.MkI* (Ordnance Quick Firing 40mm Canadian MkI*) from the Iroquois Legion sitting in my yard. We are cleaning it up and repainting it for them in exchange for some gubbins we need to keep ours working. Cheers! Mike

The coincidents and disapintments never end....:
1) Brad gets a toy I want for a great price.....I get nuthing. 2) Mike has a dental appointment for the 10th at 10:30, so do I. 3) Mike gets out of his appointment......I get to have a root canal. Actually, I am looking forward to it...the apointment was made back in March. So while Brad is collecting his new toy I will be happily getting the crap drilled out of my upper jaw. In the words of that great Liberal leader Stephan Dion: "This ees not fair!!" In all seriousness; Safe trip Brad. |

Uh-Oh
Funny meeting you here Brad. I was just out, surfing thru other peoples business when I spyed a scheduling hic-up. Your road trip (one that I'm highly envious of) clashes nicely with the 1NSHAssoc general meeting/BBQ on Sat 11 AUG. I'm sorry your going to miss that. I'll be sure to drop by your work Tue AM after my night shift to touch base and say hi.
Cheers Siol Na Fear Fearail

Bofors Shells
Here are some photos of a couple of Bofors shells that my late Father acquired whilst he was a WOII in a light AA regiment. At the time the regiment had Bofors 40/70 AA guns. He retired in 1973 and probably got them in the mid - late '60s.
I hope that these are of some interest to someone. Cheers Kevin |
