Default Engine stud removal

Hello ,

Maybe this post would be better on a restoring tips heading .

We all have to , at some point remove rusty cyl head studs from engine blocks . Usually , broken studs and grey hairs result .

A recent post on the G 503 forum was very informative . A Jeep restorer used a penetrant that is commonly used in detecting cracks in the aircraft industry . Its a dye penetrant they use with a glow dye substance to look for minute cracks in aircraft parts .

Our intrepid Jeep restorer tried this stuff out on his rusted in engine studs and the results were amazing . They all came out with ease after a overnight soaking .

Does anyone know if this stuff is available to us ordinary grease monkeys

Mike

Lightbulb Dye Penetrants

Mike,
There is a company called Rocol who make all kinds of speciality products for engineering. They produce a product called Flawfinder Penetrant in aerosol form. Any company that supplies to industry should be able to get it. In the UK, RS Components supply this sort of items.

Default Dychek

Used to be called Dychek in Canada, though there are many different brands. Never thought using the penetrant part ( 2 part process ) as a lube though. I'll have to try.
