Garry,
Yes, the figures are Ultracast and in my opinion they are the best. My figure painting is not that good, mainly due to 47yr old hand/eye co-ordination; and the detail on these figures is so sharp that I can bring out the detail with washes.

As for modelling full time - I'm being made redundant at the end of March, and am in the process of trying to move out to Victoria B.C. to help a couple of others start and develop a new company making mpdel products.

Re. O/D on tanks.
many of my models are based on books by veterans. Many tanks after 1944 were actually finished in British Khaki drab or plain old dark green. This would of course apply only to those that, as per Hanno's post, were modified or had been through workshops. By the end of the Normandy campaign this would be a lot of vehicles.

Tip- on the old 'orthochromatic' film Khaki drab shows up as a lot lighter then Olive drab. Tou can tell 'ortho' film as yellow shows as black !
In a recent (well, late '02) series of articles in "Military Modelling" magazine Steve Zaloga concluded that Tamiya acrylic o/drab was the nearest to original paint samples and I think that the same applies to British colours as well. According to a 4th Cdn.Arm.Div. veteran most of theirs were actully dark green, hence the colour scheme on my Staghound etc.

I almost bought some Tamiya OD today but realized it is twice as much as Testor's Model Master. (I refer to the spray cans).

I thought Testor's was matched to the American Federal Standard (FS) system?

If I recall correctly, by the book the Sherman would have one recognition star on its top surface (normally the turret?). But markings are not my forté - try http://www.dana-nield.com/aa/reference/CVM/Default.asp for example to see if your definitive answer is there.

Dave, I respectfully disagree. Only US vehicles which had undergone major modifications - like the Sherman Crab or Firefly - were likely candidates to be repainted in Commonwealth colours. This would certainly not apply to "a lot" of vehicles. If anything, SCC15 Olive Drab would be used, not the colours you mention. Read up on the subject of British AFV Camouflage at http://www.mafva.com/resources.asp. Mike Starmer is an authority on this subject, whereas veterans are - again respectfully - not.

Regards,
Hanno

Default Antenna & Stars

Hey Luc,can't get the sprue antenna to stay on the rear of the DAMN turret on the antenna bracket. What do I do??Also the two allied star decals!Does one go on the left side on top of the turret beside the commander's hatch & where does the second one go?On the rear engine deck??I'm tired & frustrated.I however do know that the Blue square decals go on the turret sides as Bomb was in B squadron de Les Fusiliers de Sherbrooke.HELP
Tiredly yours

hi gary,
you are right, the second star go on the engine deck(even if there's not a lot of picture showing it...).For the antenna, try super glue (cyanoacrilate glue like LOCTITE).That's what i'm using and it work well. But use only a tiny drop of glue ,this will reduce the drying time to a few second waiting.
don't give up!!!!!!

Default Regimental Designation

Hi Gary,
Quote:
as Bomb was in B squadron de Les Fusiliers de Sherbrooke
The Bomb was on the war establishment of the Sherbrooke Fusilier Regiment, a unit which was an amalgamation of Les Fusiliers de Sherbrooke and the Sherbrooke Regiment. (It drew on both reserve regiments from the Sherbrooke area and incorporated both unit titles in the CASF designation.) During the war both units maintained a reserve army battalion, and after the war they separated again. The Sherbrooke Regiment eventually amalgamted with the 7/11th Hussars, creating the Sherbrooke Hussars, and Les Fusiliers de Sherbrooke remained a reserve French unit.

Default 27th Armoured Regiment

A short ammendment: 27th Armoured Regiment (The Sherbrooke
Fusilier Regiment) is the proper CASF title. Bill
