Default Hmmmm

I wouldn't want to be the Range Safety Officer who signed off his/her rocket launcher range as all ammo being expended including this round. The serial number tracing process should be straightforward and the chain of custody fairly clear - particular if it was indeed found to be a "live" round.

Even the empty tube is illegal to have in this state now (Victoria, Australia)and probably is so across the whole country. It doesn't matter that a length of steel tube would be far more lethal in a fight.

A few years back a fellow was caught with an empty Laws tube when police raided his home on a tip-off. The song and dance in the media would lead you to believe that they had saved the world.

The empties have had to be turned in to be counted at the ASA at the end of a range day for quite some time now. Same goes for any other pre-packaged/all-in-one (Fire and Forget) ordinance like M72s (Tubes) or DM-21s (Fuse Containers) etc. Considering how many of these showed up on the Mohawk side of Oka, i'm betting there is a good chance it has a US criminal past. Food for thought.

A hundred and fifty years ago, I picked some expended M72 tubes out of a garbage dump in Valcartier. They were not completely destroyed by burning or smashing, and could still be opened and closed. My guess is the Ammo Compound accounted for every one that went out, and then sent the containers to the dump. I dončt have them anymore.

David, Your not quite right. You can still have the tube on a Collectors Cat 1. licence. Or if your lucky, a Cat. E. licence. Mine have been registered for many years without any problems apart from the extended security system as required by Victoria police. (A bunker, monitored security system by 3 different bodies and CCTV). But they do make it hard.

Hi Rick
On reflection, what I should have said was that effectively this stuff is no longer able to be legaly possessed by the average Joe. You would be one of a very small number of people qualified to own such items, for as you say, they make it very difficult. You are very fortunate to have had the contacts and the wherewithal to allow it.

I had a LAW tube many years ago along with Claymore and Jumping Jack Mines and other assorted nic-nacs when it wasn't a problem so long as they were de-activated or spent. I get a little angry at having our freedoms removed bit by bit in this inexorable eroding process and mouth off now and then. I shouldn't resent it, after all, it's for our own good isn't it?

Cheers

Dave

Did the Canadian LAWs differ significantly from the U.S. ones? LAWs come up for sale on a regular basis on such Gun forums as GUNBROKER.com, although the prices have risen sharply since Vietnam war reenacting has become popular. I've bought three in the last two years and prices have just about doubled in that time.

Derek.

Auction # 276032502 M72A2 with end caps and a "Buy It Now" price of $174.95. That's the going price for these now-a-days.

Derek.

Thanks for the replies guys. Not sure about the legalities of importing one of these from the US off gunbrokers.

Should be able to pick one up in Canada I am sure - maybe I will just have to go for a drive along the highways in BC I guess.

still on the look out.

I would be very surprised if you were able to import one in this day and age from the US.
