For a 4" crank? Makes for 276ci, that would liven up the old girl.

Speedway's part number 91015903 lists them as suiting a 4" Stroke crank from a 255 Mercury, or aftermarket from Eagle or Scat.

Default Boring limits

There is a theoretical limit to how far cylinders can be bored out, something to do with the heat transfer. If the cylinders are too thin, in theory, there isn't going to be enough mass in order to absorb and dissipate the heat into the coolant. Not sure if that theory is correct because in the real world thinner cylinders don't seem to be a problem.

A few MB/GPW Jeep owners have bored out to .060" without issues, the Jeep manuals recommend .030 max. But then again others have experienced heating issues that may or may not be related to thinner cylinders. Hard to say without a lab report !

Not very relevant in this thread but here was my approach on an over bore.

I couldnt find a 4 inch stroke crank for my carrier engine (long stroke equals more low down torque) so, (second best option)I bought and installed Ross forged pistons 3 5/16"dia. which is an 1/8" over bore, however pistons are available in 3 7/16" (and maybe even more?) I didn't want to risk it any bigger than that. I am very happy with my motor (C59), now a few years down the track.
As a side note: Bigger dia. pistons equal a bigger (and higher) dome. This meant I had to measure each combustion chamber at the squish area and have the heads machined to suit. This gave me the highest C.R. without buying after market heads.

As you would know Mike, a lot comes into it. Liners, no liners, offset castings, corrosion, plus more. What you get away with in one block, the next guy doesn't......

Lets totally add (derail) this thread! I think the C59 and C69 blocks are the only ones that you can probably have confidence in boring out past the .060 , without liners.
These motors though, as far as I know are from 1946 onwards , so depending on whether you are too concerned about trying to keep with the year of motor
that , for instance a Carrier or CMP came out with, the 99 mercury blocks are normally the ones to go for, and these can usually be bored to the upper limits
(.060 to .080 ) , without problems , just from my experience, Cheers Andrew.

Andrew, For me and my Bren there is no info about what engine was in it, other than the 40 engines were ordered from the USA. (as was the rear axle with bolt on crown wheel) So I just chose the best I could find.
Anyhow, my fault for derailing this thread (even though it is already dead)
And FYI:
59C and 59T are 1945 year production (USA) (both truck engines)
69 = 46.
79 = 47.
It looks like C59 and C59A are Canadian 1946 production.
Other numbers include: 59, 59A, 59AB, 59L,59M, 59X, 59Y, 59Z, (USA)

It looks like both USA and Canada used these numbers but don't align.
Conjecture suggests that some Canadian 59 engines were produced as military as replacements.
