Simon, you don't have to add your email -- anyone who clicks on your profile can email you from there through the system, without putting your address out for spam spiders to find. It's one of the good things about this software...

Hi Simon
I bought one a few years ago for $75.00. That seemed a fair price to me at the time. I may have paid a premium because it fit me. Thats a lot of cowhide! They are not rare but they are getting hard to find. My father ran his own logging crew in L'Amable and somewhere we have photos of two of his men wearing them in the bush. (1949). Thats probably what happened to a lot of them.

Default Going up

Simon, the most recent Jerkins i"ve seen for sale have been in the $125 - $150 range depending on condition and size. There is one on eBay right now under Militaria, WW2, Canadian. Don't recall the current bid right now.

Default Wrong jerkin?

Simon,
I think the replies to your message are talking about the wrong jerkin. You are refering no doubt to the Battle ( or Assault) Jerkin, made of canvas with pouches in it to replace webbing and separate pouches for assault troops. The others are talking about the Leather Jerkin with blanket lining, often used by drivers in cold weather. There is a book titled "British Army Uniforms & Insignia of World War Two" by Brian L. Davis, in it is described the Battle Jerkin, I believe it is quite a rare find now. There was an article on it in an English militaria magazine recently, but it is not to hand at present.

Talking about the leather one, has anyone else come across a camouflaged one? I bought a new unissued one, a No.2, some years ago, it is a light brown with with what is best described as "air brushed" patches of darker bown and green all over it. It was made in UK in May 1942 and had been released from an Ordnance Depot about 10 years ago.

Richard

Simon,
Are you looking to sell / trade your assault vest? Can you post or send me a photo?

Periodically, we still see lots of NOS Pattern 37 web gear showing up... amazing, some of it we haven't seen for 20 years (small packs etc). I really DO wonder what else they still have stashed away...

Default Sleeveless Leather Jerkin

There was one in the D-Day Dodger's footlocker(CMP C-60 driver in the RCASC which I miracoulously saved) after mother threw All his equipment out after he died.It was dark brown & the lining was made from dark green Khaki from blankets. In Italy they had locals sew in the lining.Unfortunately,it was thrown out with the ENTIRE contents of th locker including his boots, webbing ,helmet,gaiters---Ohhh,it makes me mad talking about it

I've had mine for almost 20 years... it was actually manufactured with the lining in it, and mine still has a faded label attached thereon. They're really quite warm (I had cause to wear it again at the London Air Show this summer).
