Default Brake booster question

Name: Brake Booster.jpg
Views: 214
Size: 22.5 KB

Please could someone have a complete internal parts diagram for this type of booster?

Or any links to reconditioning the unit.

Where in Australia could I get an overhaul kit?

Or parts

Also adjustment of mechanical linkages

I don't have a manual

Thanks rod

Default The MB-C1 and MB-C2 have extensive sections on the booster

Hi Rod

I've never seen nor heard of rebuild kits for these boosters. Now having said that over the years I've taken apart cleaned and put back in service 3 of these units. The manual has good discription of how to disassemble with out damage to parts.

Replacements for things like the bellows both large and small can be source from modern applications, example the large bellows can be made from shock absorber covers, and the small one motorcycle cable boots.

One tip, you will need a vacuum source ( preferably electric vacuum pump) and vacuum gauge to do any bench testing of the unit. Testing the units in the truck is not practical as you will not find the vacuum leaks. When bench testing be careful were you hold the actuator linkage these units at 14 inches of vacuum move with great force and quicker than you may expect.

There have been several good threads on this topic which you may find useful if you have not already read them.

Keep us posted on your progress and your questions.

Note that you don't have the manual, from time to time they have been available online in sections. Unfortunately the online link to the manuals on my Web page is no longer good. I'll look to see if l have a PDF version that can be posted. If you can’t find the brake section let us know somebody can email them to you

Cheers Phil

"several good threads on this topic which" I have not been able to find

there must be a magic word I am not using in the 'search'

I have searched brakes and vacume, therefore much interesting reading, but not on this booster dismantled

If no links are posted, your pdf, Phil, would be appreciated

cheers rod

You could try Ross Prince from Hervey Bay to see if he has rebuild kits available. I have seen them for sale on ebay from time to time, so they are out there. Note that similar units were also fitted to other vehicles like Studebaker US6, but there might be differences in the way they are plumbed or operate. If not, Dirk Leegwater in the Netherlands sells NOS complete units as a last resort.

Default Search for Brake Booster on MLU

Hi Rod

Yes at times the search feature on the MLU Forum is not that productive. So when that happens I do a google web search on MLU which generally yields more results.

Try this one Brake Booster should yield 119 results with either word Brake or Booster or both.

https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...pe=&as_rights=

If you google advanced search on just "Brake Booster" you get 133 hits. Of course it gives you every time somebody typed Brake Booster no mater what truck they are talking about.

https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...pe=&as_rights=

Problem with doing online search is they have dumb down the advance search on some "smart" phones and tablets, I can only do an advanced search on my desk top computer.

Cheers Phil

Sent you a private message, so I can send you that manual section.

Default Chevy Manual Link

Hi Hanno

Glad you posted that link, that is the source I was thinking of, here is the Chevrolet Manual page link. http://www.canadian-register.co.uk/chevy_manual.html

I'm glad Canadian Register still has it http://www.canadian-register.co.uk/index.html

My save bookmark to the manuals wasn't working, now I can save it again.

Cheers Phil

Thanks and thanks,
I will work through all those.

I will require a new leather bucket and metal springy bits, me thinks

The Studebaker US6 vacuum servo works quite differently to the CMP unit. It uses a remote control valve in the pedal linkage, not a built in valve. If the diameters are the same some parts may be common but I don't think that is the case.
Be aware that there are servos around that look similar to the CMP unit but push instead of pull.

Quite a while ago I literaly stumbled over a booster at that yard where all good metal congregates before it goes to meet its maker.

It kept calling me "to take it home as it could come in handy"

It kept occuring to me that it was handy, but where? and then it came to me

With a gentle push the diaphram fits nice into the trucks booster can and I think with a trim it will be worth a test

What do you think?

So boyed with enthuasium again, I rushed to the lathe and made up this collet and soon had the end out of the control

And the other end to get at the valves

Now to clean it all up, locate a softer diaphram and test it
