Default MLU access

Sunray:

Have had good success getting into MLU the last few days, in the usual manner.

However, today, 5 Jan 07, I had to revert to tortuga to gain access.

FYI

Default High speed vs. dial-up

At work with a wonderful high speed connection, no idea what it is but it is superb, access by the "normal" method has been reliable. At home, on dial-up, the "normal" method has been maybe 50% connectivity at best while tortuga has been 100% (including right after failure on the "normal").

I haven't been watching long enough to see whether the pattern wrt connection speed and effectiveness holds long term or whether there is influence from time of day.

This one by tortuga.

Default Down under

No problems recently in accessing here - although sometimes it's slow. Seems the server is still under intermittent attack.

Thanks, I appreciate feedback like this! I've been on the normal connection all day with few problems, just occasional slowness such as Keefy mentioned.

Default Access to MLU

I am still having no end of hassles accessing MLU both at home and at work. It seems that the times I can access it directly are becoming fewer and further between.
Virtually the only way I can access it at all is via the tortuga.
Rather annoying really.......

Apart from the occassional slow loading of different forums from time to time I have had no real hassels getting in using the front door address since New Year.

Default Bad patch

I went through a bad patch about a year ago where I could hardly access MLU at all although colleagues interstate had no trouble - this is something to do with routing I suspect. Bloody nuisance.

I'm still coming in most often through tortuga link and sometimes that is extremely slow ... like sometimes 1 to 4 minutes to load MLU or switching pages in MLU, especially PM area.

Being home all the time and checking in every time I sit at computer to have a cig (my cigarette makings at computer on desk and O come here to smoke ) several times throughout a day I have trouble, and this has been happening for quite a long time now.

Keefy, I remember many times when you had this trouble last year!

I hope something gives soon

I am on a dial up here and have had continuous problems getting on MLU. The tractor site that is my second choice pops up immediately. Yesterday I could not get MLU at all. By bed time the tremors had subsided sufficiently to get some sleep.

I couldn't get on for the better part of a week until Sunray sent me the tortuga URL. Now that is the only way I can get in, although I do try the front door occasionally - without success.

Bloody hell... this doesn't make any sense! How can someone a few hundred miles away NOT get in when I or others can...?? How can someone in Yurrup have no trouble but some in Oz find it nearly impossible... and to make things worse, reverse the above the following week?!

I'm looking into it and will advise in due course, thanks. Keep your reports coming...

Default Hmm

Well my main house in Scotland uses a cable connection, and MLU loads up in two or three seconds, worst case. I did speed check it last month and got 3Mb/sec, which is good, as I'm paying for 2 Mb/sec

My rented house (work location in Aberdeen) uses ADSL, which says up to 2 Mb/sec, but it is noticeably slower to load anything, maybe 5 to 10 seconds. That compares at pretty much the same ratio as it loads everything else.

I've recently had to experiment with several firewall programmes too, and neither Zone Alarm, Comodo, or Sunbelt coughs when MLU is clicked.

When they work they can be lovely, but when they don't......
But on the whole I'm not sure I want to go back to writing letters.
