radiator overflow tank completely restored
Hi all . Here is my original MK II Carrier overflow tank completely restored , painted and ready to be installed . Thank-you Super Dave for the core .
Used some leftover Olive Drab paint for now. Speaking of paint here is another $ 1 M question : What colour should a 1944 Canadian No 2 MII * Carrier should be ? What’s the nearest modern equivalent ? Were there colour variations ? So many questions ..

Factory colour would be a matt (really matt) olive drab. Similar to the standard American 34087 something but a little greener.

Recovery tank & colour
Thanks Bruce , will be working on that when i come back . Is the tank green enough or would you go for darker ?
Meanwhile , more pics of the recovery tank. Two bolts on top , one bolt at the bottom. Vent on top , outlet / inlet on the bottom. On the floor , toolbox , pattern thanks to Rob Love. To the right , thumbscrew for the engine access panel. To the left lower above toolbox , grease point for track cross tube . Above , crew seat . I need NOS hardware/ bolts & nuts.

Fuel tank restoration
Got my fuel tank back from ACME radiator.
They restored it completely inside and out. They use a white coating inside and gray outside . I painted the outside OD Green. It should last for years. Picture of a fuel sender. Where can i get a working fuel sender with float for the top of the tank please ? I have read Dave Schindle , Rob Love and Mike Gurr's comments of Feb 19. I have perused Mac's . I think i have found something. Cheers. Bob

The left side tank looks swell!
Is it time to sort out the front and rear horizontal pressure vent assemblies and their connectors to the specific front and rear vertical pressure vent lines, along with the vertical lines hull clip? Last edited by Michael R.; 25-05-19 at 16:35. |

3 way valve fittings
Hi Robert,
I might be way off base but it looks very similar to a Ford CMP truck 3 way valve. Hopefully something that was standardized. If similar size inlets, they are 1/8 NPT male to 1/4 SAE female inverted flare fittings. See attached photo. Note raised portion inside fitting which forms the seal with the double flare. The trucks use 1/4" fuel lines and SAE male inverted flare fittings, same as the fittings on the brake lines. These brake and fuel line fittings are UNS Unified National Special and are 7/16” x 24 (parallel) threads per inch (A standard 7/16” UNF thread has only 20 threads per inch). (Major diameter is 0.4364”) The fittings on the end of the tubing therefore are not NPT threads. Not familiar with the fuel lines on a carrier but if it is 1/4" tubing the above sizes would be correct. Hope this may be of some help. Cheers,

fuel selector valve fittings
Thanks Lynn, Always glad to contribute to the knowledge base.
As a matter of interest I was pretty certain they were NPT threads on the fitting and not BSP as the origin of the vehicle was North America. I thought I better check anyway as Canada being a Commonwealth country they could be BSP. We all know how many different thread forms are sometimes used on our MV's. I tried measuring against a 1/8 BSP tap but that was inconclusive as I could only engage about 3 thread due to the first three engagement threads of the tap being reduced height. I then set my Vernier to 5/27" (0.185") NPT size and compared the five threads against it as per photo. Again, inconclusive as 5 BSP threads would be a distance of 0.179". My old eyes cannot distinguish 0.006" difference on an old fitting. I then remembered the major diameters are different and measured the fitting. Sure enough, the fitting is 0.403 diameter at midpoint of the threads. I put the Vernier across the BSP tap and it passed through with out even getting close to the sides as the major diameter of 1/8 BSP is 0.383" Always more than one way to figure something out. Hope this is of some interest.

Where the valve mounts the the hull, on my example I noted a bracket which I took to be for a spring ? Does anyone have information on how that spring was fitted ?

Jacques : 1/8 NPT fittings work fantastic ! Thanks . Richard : Are you talking about the spring that helps the selector valve open and close with the very long actuating arm ?

I can't think what a spring would do? Wouldn't it bias the action one way or the other? Ron

Does it compensate for the weight of parts of the linkage?

As we know, the MK2 change over valve is operated from the driving compartment. There is no spring shown in the illustration or listed in the parts list. Ron

Ron my friend , my sources say there was a revision and that the spring was added later . That would explain it . My Carrier has said bracket for the spring . It connects to the actuation arm . Cheers . Robert
