The region of the museum and hence where the Jeep is displayed was liberated by the Canadian 3rd Division in November 1944 ( see also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Scheldt )
So we decided that the Jeep was to be marked for a unit of that Division, and since the curator/owner of the museum was made an Honorary member of the Stormont Glengary and Dundas Highlanders a few years ago, that seemed the most logical choice... |

Applying the hood (bonnet) CM-number was the final touch...
Jeep is now ready and awaiting visitors in the museum.. Thanks all for the advice! 09th January 2016 -15th October 2016 http://s153.photobucket.com/user/joh...n16-1.jpg.html http://s153.photobucket.com/user/joh...Okt16.jpg.html Last edited by Hanno Spoelstra; 16-10-18 at 09:41. USA hood number
Hello Johan
The USA Hood number would have been overpainted when we bought the used vehicles from the USA and they entered Canadian service. The painted over area did not usually match unless the whole vehicle was repainted. Other than that it looks good. Having both displayed on the hood would have created many questions from the MP's. Sometimes the numbers came through the overpainting when worn or the outline was visible. Thanks Eric

Thanks for your remark, Eric!
I went over dozens upon dozens of original pictures showing hood markings and indeed the vast majority of those showed overpainted US markings under the CM numbers... As you say sometimes the entire hood was repainted and sometimes the square outline of the overpaint above the numbers was clearly visible... But in one or two cases the blue drab US numbers were still visible under the census numbers... To add to the history of the vehicle and as a conversation starter, we went for this option... And I must add that in the picture above the blue drab is much more visible then in real life as somehow the picture ended up a bit too bright... Still I will take your remark with me and may overpaint the blue-drab number in the future... Next month we will be starting a similar job on a 1942 Willys MB which will bear the markings of The Royal Hamilton Light Infantry / 2nd Infantry Division... We have already decided we will overpaint the original USA number with a slightly different color before we put the CM number on... Last edited by Johan WILLAERT; 17-10-16 at 13:08. |

42 mb rebuild
Hello Johan
Is the 1942 Willy's MB a Canadian Contract? If so there would not have been any US number assigned to it. Eric

Hi Eric,
The 1942 MB is not from a Canadian Contrcat but pretty similar to the GPW above... It was overhauled by the French and the tub is now an ACMII tub too.. So it will be restored as one of the regular Jeeps acquired by the Canadians in 1944... Cheers, Johan Last edited by Johan WILLAERT; 15-10-18 at 11:24. |

Johan,
Excellent work you're doing on jeeps! Don't they look soooo much better in Canadian markings? Hanno

Yes, they are special, even over here in the region that was liberated by the Canadians... Still within the next few weeks we will be starting work on another Jeep... Will restore it in US livery this time... |
