Default Brake query needing clarification.

G'day all,
I' was reading through The MB-C1 service manual and it stated that all the brakes on the 4 x 4 versions were identical. I got a spare brake assembly (Shoes + Slave cylinder. Picture uploading later) with my purchase and I am not 100% sure that it is the same as others on the Blitz without taking wheels/hubs off.

So if I'm correct I can use the extra one as a change over for the others...
I'm still haven't got 100% ID on my blitz but I think its a C60L

The proportions look C60L. As long as no-one has extended the wheelbase/frame that should be it.
It looks like an Australian produced cab. I don't know enough about Australian bodies/trays to comment on whether that might be original.
All 4x4 CMP brakes are of Ford design (it's common to find Ford marked parts on Chevrolet). At least the drums are different on C8A and C8AX compared to the heavier trucks (6 stud as opposed to 8). The parts manuals will give a better idea of any differences that may exist within the heavier trucks - more to follow.
Correction as pointed out by Phil - rear C8A and C8AX brakes are typical Chevrolet parts of the period. Thank you Phil for giving me a wake-up this morning.

Default The Ford brakes on Chev is important

Hi Darren

Grant's point of that Chevy CMPs having Ford brakes is a important one, as it has driven more than one Chevy CMP owner crazy trying to find brakes parts.

On the C60L, C60S that I have they are indeed Ford brake parts both front and rear. On some other Chevy CMPs such as HUPs the fronts are Ford brakes while the rears are
Chevy.

Most of the brake hardware is standard hardware of the late 1930s and 1940s.

There have been numerous threads on MLU about overhauling brakes so some searching will yield a wealth of information. As will the manuals, do you have the manual for the truck what you want is the MB-C2.

Welcome aboard to the fun of CMPs

Cheers Phil

Default One more difference

Earlier CMP front brakes used the narrow shoes and smaller 1 3/8" wheel cylinders (as you'd find on the 15cwt types).

The later ones with the 6" steering ends had the same width brake drums and 1 1/2" wheel cylinders as the rear ones. I can't quite see from the angle of your pic which front axle you have. Hope this makes sense.

Brakes on the front of the C8 are the same as 1.5 ton civy Chev
