Does anyone know of any complete running units in private hands?

Highly doubtful, since, having been produced in 1995, they have not yet reached the end of their service life.

In the loosest of terms a LSVW is in private hands. A residue ( very little left ) LSVW was sold as "salvage only" at North Toronto Auctions this summer.

Default Residue

I have actually seen the said "residue" at the new owners site, its a chasis cab with no upper cab and no rear box. With some work and some magpie collecting of various junk he will make one machine in time.

I have first hand reports of a complete runner with SEV van body that was scrapped. The guys were told to junk it so did. I got there about 4 hours too late.

There had been plans to replace them by 2010, but as with any fleet replacement program in the CF, this has gone to the back burner due to real priorities. A soft skin B vehicle is not a priority during a war. Any we have here in KAF now are simply used in lieu of other suitable transport, or may perform minor workshop duties at best. They are not a fighting vehicle, and do not leave the front gate of the camp unless loaded on a flatbed.

They weren't much use to begin with.

No Park on the auto transmission.

Neither do most school busses. They aren't tactical vehicles but they endure plenty of abuse, both from poor drivers and the students.
Come to think of it, very few heavy duty automatics have parking pawls built in. Have you seen how small most park pawls are? I would rather trust a transmission (or rear axle, but not a flimsy cable that sort of applies the service brakes) mounted parking brake. At least some of the transmission mounted brakes can lock the rear wheels while the vehicle is driving. Don't try that very often with the typical car park position on the transmission.
