canadian gift for dutch children
Read this in the local newspaper today:
Pupils of the Davidson school from Melville, Saskatchewan had special coins made representing the Canadian 1945 5 cent coin. These coins were made into necklaces and are to be presented to schoolchildren in Holten, the Netherlands. The reason is that the schoolchildren in Holten light a candle on each grave at the Holten commonwealth war cemetery each year at Christmas Eve to honour the brave men that are buried there. The newly appointed Canadian ambassador to the Netherlands mr. James Wall will be present to hand over the gifts, also present will be vice-president Celine Garbay of the La Fondation Canadienne des Champs de Bataille because this foundation plans to introduce the same tradition for the cemeteries in Normandy.

HEAR HEAR!
I whole heartedly agree, it does make you feel proud.
Although I am half Canadian, I am very proud of my Canadian roots... And keep 3 flags flying, but can you guess which three? |
