Default Logistics Help Wanted

Gentlemen looking for some help on a WW11 trailer going from "Vancouver" to either Ottawa or Montreal. The trailer is the 1945 10 CWT CDN Model. Weight approximately 900 lbs. Details are as such....I sold my trailer to Robert Bergeron of this forum and who resides in St Georges Quebec. Now we are looking to getting it there for a reasonable cost. Options.....

1/If you are going from here to there and can tow this is the first option. Trailer is empty and has a plywood and canvas top on it. You can use it to haul "stuff". "NO BC BUD"!!! Once it gets to Ottawa or Montreal, we need a safe and dry storage place to drop it off at, for a short time. So you members in Ottawa and Montreal chip in. Robert will drive down and pick it up.

2/We are looking at getting pricing from a transport company to haul it down to either of the 2 cities. I will be able to mount it on pallet(s) and have a fork lift truck to place it in the back of a trailer or barring that, it can be rolled onto a flat bed. If you have anything happening that we can combine shipping, we're all ears. Drop me a PM if there are any great revelations.

Many thanks for your time and help......2 Roberts

Robert
Failing a safe and sound storage location, I am in the North Bay area and could provide temp storage (outdoor) for a couple weeks if need be.
Also, you may want to post an ad on Uship, I have used them several times to haul stuff for me in the USA and Canada, prices were reasonable.
I had a deuce trans in a crate moved from Louisianna to Buffalo NY storage for about $140USD. I had my M715 Kaiser moved from S OH to Guelph ON for $900 which included the driver brokering and clearing the load at the border for me (usually $500-$1000 on its own if you use a customs broker)
I have seen cars listed on Uship for around $1500 from BC to Ontario.
Nice thing about the trailer is that it can go on just about anything, a dry van, flatdeck, float, enclosed cargo trailer etc etc.

Default Storage in Ottawa.....

Plenty of room for storage at the Hammond barn (Ottawa)....... Robert can them pick it up or we can arrange for delivery for gas money.

Default Still looking....

Chris/Bob: I'm going to put those offer(s) in the pile and let Robert sort through them. I am waiting for Adams Forwarding to get me a price. They were recommended to me by George Mckenzie and I've used them a couple of times and recommended them to others.

I tried the U Ship last month, but not much luck at all. Chris, you might have lucked out, but I sure got some weird ones. One guy emailed me 5 minutes after I listed it, promising to take it the next day once I paid him up front! That one was quickly trashed.

I'll try it again, maybe I'll have better luck this time with the major cities as opposed to the small towns.

I'll keep you posted as to what happens. Cheers.....Robert

Yes Robert, the downside of Uship is that there are some scammers on there.
Authentic shippers contact you through the website service and never ask for funds up front. It at least gives you the options to look through the bid prices and make up your own mind.

I can also be used as a drop off point if you find something going only as far as Mb. It can sit here for as long as it takes to find someone traveling from Mb (which is geographically the center of North America) to the East. I am only 7 miles from the trans Canada highway, and can pick up or drop off to the highway as need be.

I had indifferent success with Uship. The website lets you post your load and a ceiling price you are willing to pay. I found that $1000 wasn't enough for moving my M151A2 from Edmonton to Ottawa to get much action from the bidders. I had to bump it up, and eventually paid a side price to the lead bidder, just so things would start moving.

I shipped a 1A2 box from Sask to Ottawa for $400 on a United Van Lines backhaul. The driver said they haul vehicles east all the time. He already had a couple of wrecked vehicles onboard that were going from Vancouver to Ottawa. He went 200 miles out of his way to get here too.

Default Back on U Ship.....

Well Chris and crew.....I threw it back on U Ship. I've had 1 quote for $1900.00 + and another inquiry which I'm waiting for a quote from. David. I never thought of United Van Lines. I'll call them on Wednesday and check it out. Adams Forwarding is seeing what they can do to bring their price down from $1800.00. And yes Terry, I was probably a "tadge" off on my estimate. It's almost cheaper to put it in a container and ship it to Europe.
Thanks Rob also for the offer. Are you sure you'd give it back??? You know you are related to that museum and you know what museum people are like! I'll keep you all posted. Cheers for now....Robert

Default Logistics resolved....

Well.......finally got every thing sorted out this afternoon on shipping the trailer to Quebec from B.C. Taking in every ones 2 cents, I threw it back on U Ship plus some direct phone calls and ended up with the following: Taking David's juicy little tid bit in, I got a quote from United Van Lines......wait for it.....$3200.00 plus taxes!!! And they're just down the street from the trailer! The only funny thing about this quote was when they sent it over, they said they were "THRILLED" to provide me a quotation. I spoke with the female sales rep. and said in the nicest, humorous way, that if this how you get your daily "thrills".....you need to get a new life! Next from U Ship was a boating company from Ottawa area already coming out here.....$2900.00. A transport company from Calgary offered $1900.00 with a little lee way in delivery time. Liveable. Next was Adam's Forwarding....I like these guys....$1800.00 plus txs. Then the guy I went with from the Ottawa Valley....and I am reluctant to mention his name only because he did me a side deal and I wouldn't want to get him in trouble...$1544.00 to Montreal...everything included. Now that I have done the U Ship deal, I have his direct number and email address and can contact him direct. He does a lot of speciality shipping, with 2 /45 foot cargo trailers for motorcycles and such. West coast to the East Coast. Anyone wanting the address....PM me. Thanks for everyone's help ...Robert
