1940 c15
I have owned this C-15 for a number of years and while at the show last Saturday it was mentioned that I should post the serial number to see if anyone has any information about this truck. The truck doesn’t have cab vents, so it is an early build. It is currently in storage, and needs lots of work but I am planning to start restoration soon.
Here is my serial number: 0842109189 The truck doesn’t have any other numbers or data plates on it. Thanks |

The first number "0" represents 1940 model. 8421 is the GM Canada code for the model (C15 4x2). So it should be truck number 9189. So, that serial should be correct for a 1940 C15. The interesting bit is that the parts manual says the vents came in at truck number 2521. But of course the parts book could very easily be wrong; wouldn't be the first time! Are there any other numbers on the serial plate? Or an engine number on the flat area near the distributor? Owen.

Engine number
I don’t have access to the truck at the moment, but the engine number on the registration (from1952!) is 2789696.

Serial number
I have a C15 parts manual courtesy of Brian Asbury and the serial number on the registration doesn’t make sense. It would be way too late for this truck judging by the parts manual. I will verify the number on the truck next time I look at it, maybe this weekend. The registration would have been typed by hand in the 50’s and I know that mistakes were commonplace. The number may be 0189 at the end, which would make sense for this truck. I will let you know.
Thanks |

Here is a link with some chassis number and engine number info, mostly compiled by our own David Hayward. It shows a small list of C15's built in 1940. All mentioned there have 3 digits at the end. http://hotrod.gregwapling.com/chev-t...dian-chev.html Alex

Ahh, that makes more sense !
It will be interesting to see if the engine number actually matches the number on the plate and the 1952 reg document. David |

Engine number
Yes, the engine number does match the registration, and is in the correct range for 1940 production. Therefore I do believe that the registration was miss typed. Thanks

Any pictures of the truck???
Hi Paul
Have you ever posted pictures of your truck??? What ever you do..... do not start your restoration process without taking as may digital photos as you can before, during and after. Would be interested in following your restoration in glowing color pictures when you get started. I have worked on a C15a and gained some valuable experience I am willing to share and would love to learn the differences with the 4x4. Bob C

I'm guessing post #21 here might be an older picture of Paul's truck?
http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/sh...088#post116088 I note that the C15 that is the main subject of the above link doesn't have the extra 'assistor' leaves on the rear springs. My C15 is about 1700 units after Paul's, and does have the assistors on the rear springs...and yes, those rear springs with assistors are heavy. I too would like to see some more pictures of Paul's C15. And to see if it has 'normal' rear springs, or if it has the assistors fitted. Owen.

C-15
Yes, my C-15 is on the trailer, going inside out of the weather. I reread the post and I see that unfortunately I gave David Hayward the incorrect serial number. We will need to keep this in mind as it would incorrectly give the impression of the number of trucks built. Does anyone know who has access to David’s files? It would be nice to correct the error.
Thanks |
