Default Australian Army Howitzer.

Hi All

I have just finished listenning to an interview on the ABC with the South australia RSL President. Jock Stratton . He was being interviewed regarding the Australia Government announcement to sell 32 field pieces - M2-82 25 pound Howitzers. He advised they were going for $4,000 each and they were being offered to interested RSL branches, organisations or military clubs. Applications to purchase close on 24th October 2011.

Cheers

Tony

They are actually M2A2 howitzers, which are 105mm guns, not 25 pounders. I think the majority of these guns in Aust service were upgraded to M101 spec in the 60's and 70's, so very few will still be in original M2A2 configuration.

The $4000 mentioned is not the price of each gun, it is only for the De-Mil work required before the Army will release them.

See Minister's Press Release.

Hi Local Chap

Thanks for the update. The information I put was direct from my notes as the SA RSL President was talking during the interview. I know nothing of Field Pieces. I always thought they were too noisy for me. My unit was based next to an Arty unit for a while, they continually interrupted my sleep. Seriously, thanks for the additional input, it just goes to show that Jock should have done his homework before the interview.

Cheers

Tony
