I'm getting this error right now using the MLU access, but Tortuga is fine. Anyone else, and where are you?

Clear now... and no, this has nothing to do with the banned addresses.

Hi Geoff, I have got through on .org right now in New Zealand for the first time in ages.
Just as well you told us about the Tortuga address. It works just fine.

No problems over here using .org. It has been OK ever since the new format.

Southeastern US. Using AOL exclusively since the change.

One in five times maybe, I will get a "nobody home" response but I just back out and try again and have been successful 100% of the time.

All operations once I am in are very quick, unlike the earlier version when load times from getting on to moving around to getting posts accepted were very tedious indeed.

Perhaps of some interest, I have no exotic firewalls or such and basically allow all cookies etc. and clean the mutt using XoftSpy and a couple of other similar programs daily. I also use the standard Norton Anti Virus setup, nothing fancy.

For whatever it is worth, it has been my experience on a lot of forums that AOL is a problem, particularly on non US based forum providers. When it becomes impossible to get on consistently, I use Firefox as a backup which usually works. The AOL problem can be fixed, it just takes some sort of changes on the part of the provider as I understand it.

I am not sure if I am making sense here as I am a total computer klutz but I think a lot of these problems being reported here are "handshake" problems that should be able to be resolved if the various members can let Jif know what specific type of "setup" they have on their PCs. Sorry, I do not know the technical terms, but how do you access the net, what types of protection do you have, how have you set up accepting cookies, etc. etc.

Just some thoughts for today.

Bill

I could have sworn that I answered this with a very short reply, something like, "Good (about the clear for you now) and "Ok" about not the IP bans, but don't see it!!! AM I dreaming or did my post somehow get deleted?

I am still having periodic problems with the .org address. Yesterday and today it has been perfect.

Default Intermittent Access

Geoff; Occasional intermittent access on .org, but not to worry, probably attributed to the "steam technology"that we in the wilds of NB are faced with.

.org does not work until around 4.30pm from work (Wagga Wagga, Aus)
Seems to be OK from home, usually after 6.30pm local time.

Dot org working fine from Toronto last night and right now. Will monitor - I expect it may go out in the next couple of hours if past experience is anything to go by.

BREAK-BREAK

Yes Karmen, I did delete that and one other. Rather than fill this thread with miscellaneous chat I am going to present it to my host as a text file to back up my suppositions, ergo your non-applicable comments disappeared.

Default Gateway down

It's around mid day here in Australia and the main portal is down again. I've had to come in through the alternative link.

Damn... but good evidence, thanks. I've been up all day here in Toronto. This definitely DOES rotate.

Next I'm going to have to arrange to get some traceroute software so selected individuals around the world can trace the signal when it times out like that. The problem lies someplace common - we just have to isolate it.

Keep the reports coming!

Geoff,

Since the upgrade, opening up has been no real problem. It has been a little slow sometimes, but I personally put that down to the times I sometimes come on to the Forum.

Two points though; I normally just leave without logging off - could that have an effect on the speed of connection? When I leave now, I am going to log off and try coming back later on to see what happens.

Secondly, is there a time limit where the programme says basically "No activity, kick 'em off" after leaving the Forum?

Paul.

Question

Tried posting a message and received the error message in quotes.

"You do not have permission to perform this action. Please refresh the page and login before trying again."

This is the message I tried to post:-

Logged off from my last visit just over an hour ago.

Googled Maple Leaf Up and came in through http://www.mapleleafup.org/

No problems at any stage, opened up and went to Forum log on within 20 seconds. Logged on and Forum opened within 15 seconds.

Paul.

I tried to post a second time and the same message came up. I entered again through my bookmark and am trying again to post the message.

Paul.

Trying to post the message below for a second time:-

"The message posted this time.

I am going to log off again and try to post a test message later on by entering through Google etc.

Paul."

If I go to open up the Forum again, I have to log in again.

Question

If I try and post through "Post Quick Reply" it gives me the error message.

If I go through "Go Advanced" it seems to work.

I've noticed this as well, have not isolated it yet but believe it's to do with the new software package itself. You will eliminate that error by clearing your cookies and starting again - for some reason it seems to be half-reading the old cookie rather than overwriting it.

Beware Firefox as well... I've noticed that if you leave a Firefox window open long enough, the cookie associated with that window becomes corrupt. Then you have to close & restart the application.

Geoff,

For quite some time now I have had trouble getting MLU from my Google Favourites or even typing in the MLU address. Comes up no connection about 60% of the time.

Also same problem clicking on the links if I get a subscribed thread notification by email.

All other links and favourites work fine, only MLU problem.

Often the only way I can get in is to do a Google search and click on some old thread that google has picked up, bring it up then backtrack via the headings to the particular forum I want.

Any one else having this problem? Any ideas?

Lang

I should read the previous important posts - I suppose that is why they are posted as stickies. I see I am not Robinson Crusoe with non-connects and active corrective measures are in hand.

Will follow progress as you battle with the forces of evil Geoff - Lucas don't have anything to do with the internet, do they?

Tried a test message after logging on this morning through "Post Quick Reply" - no joy.

I followed the instruction to refresh the page - it made me log on again, but still would not post.

Trying now through "Advanced" again.

Hi Paul ... did you try the quick reply icon located on the post or
did you try the one on the quick reply BOX below the posts???

I ask because it took me forever to figure out why I couldn't make
the quick reply message box to work for me ... didn't know I had
to click on the icon on the post in order to "activate" the reply box ...
is this what you've been doing too?

Karmen,

I use the quick reply icon on the post, it took me a couple of attempts to realise that was the way to go.

This reply is through the "Advenced" mode. I tried to post another message after my last one through the "Post Quick Reply" and it gave me the error message.

The message was:-

One thing I have just noticed.

When this hassle started last night, the "time now" was not correct. It is also showing that I last visited, at the top of the page, at 18.57 last night. I was definitely on the Forum after that time.

When I refreshed the page, I checked the "Time Now" and it is showing GMT -6. Is that possibly the time zone of the servers?

Paul.

Okay, so you're talking about a different problem than I had.

I don't know anything about those workings through advanced yet, so can't help you. Sorry I don't know the answers about the time zones/servers either ... so ....

Maybe Geoff will be able to answer/help you when he reads this, unless someone else knows the answers and chimes in here???

I hope it gets figured out and set right, soon

Cool No problems

Well, conversely it has always worked here through the front door using my "favourites" link of http://www.mapleleafup.org/forums/
and as best I can recall we have never had failed access in at least the last two years (CRAFT problem) except those I have flagged to Geoff by regular email and then it would seem the whole site was down for an explicable reason; I doubt these occurrences make much more than the fingers of one hand though.
