Default Splendid Idea!

What a GREAT idea to start a whole forum just for COROWA! And what a great start to begin it with Geoff's first visit to Corowa!!!

Looking very good indeed (and I'm totally envious ) ... but happy to see you look like you're having an excellent time Geoff. (Love the uniform topped with the Digger hat )

Yep, Geoff's on Belinda's DosBox and I'm on my Mac.

Here's another pic of Geoff. I'm uploading this one to the server as the links aren't working for some reason. I've also added a bunch of others to the page.

Default Back in Melbourne

Just took Geoff for a short spin in the FGT.

We made a couple of stops on the way home... this was one of them.

I'll be recovering it in the near future.

There is a BIG difference between "7 o'clock" and "19.00 hours"!

To all MLU'ers that I met on the weekend, thanks for a great couple of days. Can't wait for next year. What a fantastic bunch of people. I came away with my head swimming with info, facts & figures. On top of that trying to figure out how to pay for all the bits I have "Lined up"....

Default chev

Rick Cove discovered the AIF reg number of this car on the bonnet . His research has revealed that it was despatched to the Middle East and it was subsequently returned to Australia intact after serving in Syria and beyond .

The Chev. suffered a broken gearbox close to Myrtleford , half way to Corowa , a replacement box was found and fitted . 1940 Chev gearboxes are common things in the Victorian alps .

.. To take a close look at this:

(do you know that new car smell? No, I don't mean new vinyl and plastic, I'm talking about just-dried paint and the slightly burnt smell of a new exhaust. The owner of this C60S finished his truck just three days before Corowa, and it is his first Military Vehicle restoration. Congrats!)

Tony..
That looks like nice piece of work..The fairleads indicate a winch..was this a gun tractor?..Looks pretty short..Maybe it is the camera angle..
Who owns it..??
Lots of questions..

Alex, it's a 134"wb C60S with winch. I won't reveal the owner until he comes onto MLU, but in the meantime, he has fallen in with a bad crowd in the form of the Yass Chev boys (No, not Max, he's a respectable Ford man!). Even Keefy was seen standing up on the rear deck hollerin' like a Jackeroo as the truck did a circuit of the main street. Their evil influence is pervasive.

Yeh Tony..A lot of the C 60S were fitted with winches and wrecker bodies..
Did that C-60 S come from around Brisbane..
A buddy of mine was restoring one and got a good jump on it and then traded it off on a crawler of some sort..
One of my favourites..C-60S wrecker..
I'd like to see more of it.
What ever the guy has caught is fatal..You'll die loving the damned things..

The truck was actually found smack dab in the middle of the Yass AO. This either speaks highly of the locals level of quality they reject, the utter volume of wrecks to choose from, or the restoration skills of the owner. Bit of all three, I think.

Default C60S?

Err I think you'll find it is a C60L, or at least it was when I drove it and had to do a 10 point turn. It has the base for the standard GS dropside body.

It's a nice truck to drive though, and when Tony saw me on the back I was standing where the spare tyre carrier is going to go as Jif was being shown the sights of Corowa from the passenger seat.

And Mike, that wandering soul does look sort of familiar, like an itinerant minstrel or similar.

Default Nick it

Means to steal.

As for other Corowa stories, they will come in time, and especially so on the DVD 'cos I interviewed many people to hear what they had to say... but there's never enough time to do all I want.

Just wait until you see the story of the propane bottle catching fire in a spectacular fashion with Jif taking command WAY too close for comfort - someone bodily hauled him back at one point.

By the time the fire brigade arrived it was under control and cooled off, but they still had to impress us with the high pressure hose and dire warnings to stay 300 metres back!

Ah, I thank you Master Keefy! (I'll deal with you later Master Dinty-Man )

And another AH ... I've been very impatiently waiting for more news on the more explosive events of Corowa! To think I'll get to see it on a clip even more better

The DVD to come sounds wonderful Keith ... as your videos always are. I look forward to watching and hearing the interviews ... will have to try and come up with a DVD player some day in the not too distant future. I wonder ... I should check the local library to see if they have one to use. that just occurred to me

Whereas "Nicked" means stopped/arrested by the police and written up for an offence.

Nick, however refers to a police station.

eg:
Verb. 1. To arrest. E.g."Right Mr Hall, please step out of the car, you're nicked for speeding."
2. To steal.
3. To take, have. E.g."Can I nick a cigarette until later? I'll buy a packet when I get my wages."
Noun. A police station.
Adj. Quality. Usually heard in the expressions, good nick or bad nick. E.g. "For that much money, you'd expect it to be in good nick."
