Default Bits and pieces help

Hi everyone.

Could someone privde me with some dimensions adn perhaps better pictures of the following parts.

First off is the rear seat back cusion.

I know that the two bolt holes are 13" apart CTC. I have scaled out the rectangular part to approx 12 1/4" by 6". Is this correct?

Better yet does someone have an original they would be willing to sell me. That also goes for the flare gun holster bracket.

And here is next bit of information I am seeking.

Can someone post some more pictures on how the gunners protection plate fits in relation to the rest of the front armour. I have a repro piece but it needs a large amount of work.

Also does anyone have some pictures of the bits I have arrows pointing to. Im not too sure on how it all goes together.

Or if anyone has some originals I would be interested to hear from you.

I measured my back seat plate and the rectangular portion measures out to 12" X 6" exactly.

The flare holster bracket shown in the photo is missing it's grease nipple. The grease gun's hose would run up to the bracket where the alemite adapter would hook on to the dummy nipple. This was likely so the radio operator would get grease on his uniform and get the kitchen duties, leaving the driver free on weekends.

Hi Rob

Thanks for the dimensions. I guess I was pretty close. What thickness of sheet metal was the rear seatback plate.

In the parts manual it lists wood screws (31873 S) that are #8 csk head by 1/2" long. I have seen another carrier that had a wooden piece (CTL 13172?) the same dimentions as the backrest. I would then assume that the wood was porbably plywood and it was 1/2 thick. Would the vinyl material (Tl/CTL 13173) simply be wraped around the wood and padding (TL/CTL 13174) and then stapled?

Question. Why would there be a grease nipple on the flare gun bracket other then for getting grease on the radio ops backside?

The metal plate I have, which is an origional, measures about .140 thick. I don't recall the thickness of the plywood piece, but by those screw lengths, it would have to be at least 1/2", and possibly 5/8" thick.
If I recall correctly, the back seat cushion was not merely stapled to the wood (that would be too simple). It was of the same design as the front seat backrests, with the little lift the dot snaps and studs. I think Brian Asbury had these at one time. Somewhere in my junkbins I think I have a (shrunken) origional.

The grease nipple is just another example of the British armys newfound battledrill. There was a place for everything, and quite often a precise way of using it too. In the manual "The carrier platoon" it even details how to get into the carrier (ie: plece left hand on armour, left foot onto top of track, swing right foot over......) and gives a time limit as to how long it should take.

The grease gun bracket was located on top of the gastank, and the hose would run from the end of the grease gun, up to that bracket. I guess that was better for the hose than curling it around under the seat.

Thanks again

I found in one of my books a drawn picture showing the seat back cusion. Yes it has those little lift the dot fasteners. As you say it is basically the same as the front seatbacks.

Just took this pic yesterday on an unrestored carrier about 20 min from me.

Showing the seat back with wood (original?) and the flare gun bracket with the grease nipple.
