How much of this is original
Happened across this behemoth up the side of a mountain on the weekend.
Am not familiar with the bigger Blitzes - is the rear drive train and suspension etc. original? And that brake booster? And what is the spare motor out of? Any learned eyes and input most welcome.

The truck is a C60X 3ton 6x6 Chevrolet CMP.
They were powered with a 270 Cu In GMC 6 cylinder overhead valve petrol engine similar to that used in the American GMC CCKW. The engine laying on the chassis seems to be a 270. These Canadian built trucks were somewhat heavier in the drive train than the CCKW and were considered by many to be a better truck. In post war sales I believe they sold for more than the CCKW. So is original configuration?
Thanks for that David. I saw GMC on bellhousing and thought they must have changed engines at some point in its life. So that rear driveline/suspension is all original? Maybe worth procuring ....

I agree that it is C60X. Only about 2700 made (one source gives 2710).
The brake booster is not original (but the vacuum reserve tank inside the left frame rail is original). Many small brackets on the frame match C60X. The 5 blade fan and rear engine mounts resemble the 270 in the C60X. The deep oil pan is consistent with later production (early 7-5/16" deep, late 11-7/8" deep, neither is listed as CMP unique). I don't know enough to say with total certainty that the engine is or is not C60X. Dual rear wheels are not normal C60X in Canadian usage, but could have been swapped on. |

C60X in Aust
Grant,
Total around 460 in Australian military, ie about 17% of total production. Mostly used by the RAAF as refuellers, with a small number as heavy cranes, and one as a runway cleaner with a jet engine on the back (true!). Army used them for the Breakdown No.4. Nice truck. Hope someone might be prompted to save it. Mike |

Yes, the rear bogie appears to be all original and all there.
One of the reasons these trucks were preferred over the CCKW was that the gearbox is a four speed, 1:1 in top and the two speed t/fer case is also 1:1 in Hi range. The CCKW used a five speed transmission that was overdrive in top then cancelled that out with a reduction in Hi range through the t/fer case. They used more gears, bearings and complexity to achieve the same result. David
