Exclamation New Years 2016 and 2017 Challenge

Hi All

To mark the New Year would like to issue the following Challenge How Many CMPs Can We Take For A Drive On January 1st 2016?

Who will be the first to post a picture or video of their drive? Who will be the last?

Cheers and Happy New Year to everyone.

Phil

Hi All

Would like to expand the CHALLENGE TO INCLUE SUBSEQUENT years.

Hanno in his 2017 Seasons Greetings reminded me of this challenge and wanted to reissue the New Years Challenge to see how many of us could celebrate the start of the New Year with a military vehicle drive.

Cheers Phil

Default Jeezus Phil!!!

You don't give much lead time.....specially with the weather conditions between ourselves and the the NZ's and Ozzies. Besides ....those down under, either country, would have us beat. HOWEVER....my New Hampshire/Australian Friends....I will put it to the forum for a different challenge for CMP's.

Open for Ideas......and a little side wager to make it interesting. "Kickin" ass and takin numbers"....Robert ( Vancouver )

It took me almost half the day to get the tractor going today at -31°C. I had to wait until mid-day when it hit a balmy -18°. Pretty sure the CMPs in my area will be staying indoors for a couple months yet.

Challenge accepted Phil !

On New Year I will drive the 1944 Chevy C-15A and post a picture.

We just had 20 cm of snow and 30-40 more are forecast for tuesday.

Temperatures will plummet to minus 17 C . but it sleeps indoor so no starting problems.

So if the weather clears wednesday/ thursday at might just give me enough time to clear a path.

Happy New New Year.

Cheers.

Default Given Recent Weather

Hi All

Given that on Christmas Eve temperature here New Hampshire reached 66F or 19C with no snow yet this year second latest snow in recorded weather history, not sure how ito wI'll wor out.

But I've charged all trucks batteries to insure they start. Trying to drive all of them on the first day of the year has a special meaning for me not having been able to real drive them since July, but now following hand surgery beginning of September things are beginning to get back to normal.

Looking forward to see how many CMPs we can turn out, don't have a CMP any bit of old iron that is special to you will be quite good, just start the year driving.

Cheers Phil

Default New Year Drive

I'll see if I can fire up the old FGT and at least move it forwards and backwards!

Default Well someone had to do it...

Don't know whether this is quite a drive but she did move under her own power about a minute into 2016.

Great to see you actually waited for the clock to jump to 12:00 PM - that's dedication. So let's be a sport and call your "move" a "drive"

Best wishes for 2016! Were are still more than 8 hours away from it.

Default Good one Keith

Hi Keith

You most certainly got spirt of the challenge award, with first video posted, some how I did expect someone to meet the challenge at the stroke of midnight. Now was that AEST or AEDST? Also was that fireworks I heard at the end of the videos?

Hope we get to see more videos and pictures of CMPs and their drivers out making their own first drive of 2016.

At a minimum it will be 15 hours before my drive.

Cheers and Happy New Year

Phil

Hi Keith,
Good one You have beat the Kiwis to it!

I bet you would have driven up the road, it was only the lack of headlights that stopped you

See you in March.

cheers Richard

Best wishes for 2016 to everyone!

Reporting live from the Netherlands: https://youtu.be/zWuuMXb7SUc

Took it for a drive around the town, about 20-25 minutes, so it warmed up nicely. New year's resolution: take the truck out for a drive more often!

Default New Years Drive 2016 Two Out Of Three

Hi All

Happy News Years to all best wishes from New Hampshire. May you have lots of CMP or other MV driving during the coming year.

Didn't go out at the stroke of Mid Night but did get out by 10 AM. We had a miserable snow sleet storm on Tuesday 4-6 inches on unfrozen ground hence the mud and snow. Stuff on the ground is so heavy that both trucks needed 4x4 drive in places on flat ground.

Was going to try to take all threes out the two stored in the unheated garage start with out problems the one parked in the heated shop decided it didn't want to start, so only took 2 out for drive. Photo below shows the two that started, I'm editing the goPro video and will paste that later today.

If you don't make it out on New Years Day hope you will post your first drive of the year.

Cheers Phil

PS- Hanno your weather looks better than ours. Good New Years Resolution.

Default Rides in the New Year

Happy New Year to all,

I was not early, it was a leisurely 0930hr this morning .

Took along my brother in law from Boothbay Harbour Maine USA with me, he did'nt want to get up any earlier .

He was doing the pictures, i was doing the driving and lecturing .

Told him an earfull about Canada's involvement in WW2 , most of it he did not know. Don't blame him as most Canadians don't either.

Anyway , we had a GRAND time driving around in the fresh snow.

I skidded with the Carrier and went into the ditch. No problem i said to the brother in law all the while praying she could back out by herself and she did ! One for the Canadian Carriers i told myself.

Here is my contribution to the challenge.

Thanks Phil for encouraging us to do so.

Cheers.
