Default More SLV scenes

In Japan: BCOF symbol on the windscreen panel. Many years ago a BCOF/Korean war veteran told me: there were so many surplus jeeps available in Japan "I had mine painted a bright yellow"

Some of these pics I have posted previously but not in the higher resolution format.

Melbourne ARP exercise.

This is a 1940 Pontiac conveying returned veterans: circa1945. The Victorian two letter reg. plate scheme began in 1939 with AA-000 and ended in 1953 with ZZ-999. Many vehicle restorers make the mistake of painting a white border on the plates.

Default Carrier

Carrier performing a balancing act.

Gas producer on a Ford sedan. I can remember VMVC member Colin Anderson making a gas producer and arriving at a club event with his vehicle running on charcoal.

I'm reasonably sure the 1/746 is the RAEME detachment of 1st Central Ordnance Depot (1COD).

Default Melbourne

Public Records Office Victoria pics.

South Melbourne scene, looks like the Montague Street Bridge: Truck on the left C6668 is a D300 Forward Control International - I found a small number of these trucks in the AWM126 ledgers, they were issued to army units based in and around Melbourne - Coburg, Geelong and a few other suburbs. Unusual vehicles. The bridge, in a updated form, still exists today and is currently used by trams. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montague_Street_Bridge

Dodge with a gas producer. Victorian Railways are still using the Irish 5 feet 3 inch broad gauge. Other Australian states are a mixture of 3 feet 6 inch and Standard gauge.

US army Chevrolet G506 trucks and a Right Hand Drive 1942 Studebaker sedan with US reg. This Studebaker sedan is a real oddity with the USA 156 reg. number. The flat railway cars have the Victorian Railways (VR) logo on the axle box lids.

Victorian Railways: 1939 Chev. utility with gas producer. The front tyre has the letters 'VR' on the sidewall, a anti-theft measure. OLYMPIC brand tyres were still in production until around 20 years ago. https://collections.museumsvictoria..../articles/6210

¹ The basic meaning is approximately “young man.”

Default Maple Leaf

The grill displays 'Chevrolet' and the bonnet MAPLE LEAF. The door handle is strange.

The VR 'brand on a tyre'

Advert poster on the Montague Street Bridge pylon - Chevrolet

The VR van is a Lend-Lease Chev, fitted with blackout lights and the imported cab with the single piece door glass. Some of these LL Chev cabs have round military instruments with Jeep like panel lights.

A Lend-Lease Inter K series with military style tyres - the cargo body looks similar to a GM-H made unit.

Default Chevrolet utility

A 1942-47 15 cwt Chevrolet utilty.... quite a good number of these have survived.

https://prov.vic.gov.au/archive/D1CE...93799A?image=1

https://prov.vic.gov.au/archive/D1CF...03700D?image=1

Another Chev with blackout covers.

https://prov.vic.gov.au/archive/CE28...C2AC7A?image=1

Some of the late production GM-H cabs were fitted with the military style instruments and panel lights. I have seen a few of the 15 cwt 42-47 utes fitted with these military instruments.

GM-H figures they made around 25,000 of these cabs during WW2 . I am looking for a decent cab , mine are rusted out beyond help.
