Default Brown Canvas

Does any one by any chance know a canvas hood manufacturer in the UK who can offer items made in brown rather than the standard green or sand.

The subject of vehicle colours has been previously discussed at great length on this and other forums, and unfortunately, too many vehicle owners have been brain washed into believing that all war time vehicles were painted in olive drab. As a result suppliers tell me that there is no demand and I would have to pay for a batch to be dyed.

This is obviously a great pity as unless some one can tell me different, brown was probably the most common colour on British and Canadian vehicles during the war.

Default Check out Cordura Nylon Tarp

Niel - Check on the web for suppliers of Cordura Nylon Tarps I have found it is a good visual match for the orginal cotton tarp matieral used on late HUPs. The stuff sews well and is tougher than cotton tarp that you can get now. I have several different colors that I have used tan, light brown and dark brown.

Could not find a UK supplier but here is a sample of colors. http://www.americanhomeandhabitat.co...ors_FCP100.htm

I've found odd lot suppliers at much lower cost.

Not only for boats, in the historic truck scene as well...note it's even a Ford!

Source: http://www.wimsmetsers.nl/ - have sent an e-mail, let's see what they can come up with.

Default canvas

Hanno, mine came from a tent manufacturer, his name is Arnold Steenbergen, his name will be in the "groene boekje".

Maybe he can help you.

Cheers,

Stefan

Default Bring some over!!

Hanno or Stefan, you coming to Stoneleigh in January? If so how about bringing over an order for brown canvas. Neil wants some I certainly would take some and I know others after it as well. I have a stall there this year, clearing out time.

What you say?

Nigel

Nigel, I'm not, maybe the Leegwater's CMP parts shop is coming over, they regularly attend shows. Seems brown canvas is a useful item for parts dealers to carry some stock of.

Cheers,
Hanno

Hello there,
I'm in the same predicament. If the only option is to get a batch dyed specially, wouldn't it be possible to get together and get the unit cost down? I'm sure that there must be quite a few people out there that need brown canvas - I certainly do!

Stefano
