Default C60X workshop manual

I was just thinking If I was to add a C60X to the collection what workshop manual covers the 270ci GMC engine? I'am sure Alex would have somthing.

Hi Euan
Yes the C60x is a different breed of cat entirely..
With the tandem driven rear axles,it is a most unusal twin drive line from the transfer case..
The parts and maintenance are listed on my web site..

#21: 221 pages
C60X-04
GM CANADA, ILLUST. PARTS LIST, 3 TON, 6x6, MOD. C60X Chassis 8660, 160" W.B., CDN. MIL. PATTERN (INC.C60X-01, 02, 03, 04). (Jan.'45). Body options:- Machinery Lorry, R.E. (E & M), Machinery Lorries, B, C, F, H, L, Q.M.G. W/S Lorry, M.G.O.. Stores, Q.M.G. Stores.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

#21A: 300 pages+
M660-C1
C 60X-04 Maintenance Manual and Operating instructions Sept.'42

The maintenance manual itself is over 300 pages but well worth the investment..
Ordering now from north America, even with air mail has slowed down so much and back logged at the depots with this terrorist sh*t is really cramping any mail from in and out of the country..
I sent manuals to Austria on the 4th Of October and as of today(21st Oct) they still have not arrived..usual time is 5-8 working days..air 2 months by sea...
I can't track air mail unless it is registered..I guess that is the next step..But the cost is brutal..
$40.00 post for two manuals ..air...Registered air..????

Hey, Mark

Any Wusty old twuck we may find South of the border belongs here, truly downunder.
And, assuming there is a wusty 6X6 then it's probably better not to worry Ashley with the details... it might upset him too much.

Default South of the Border Raids

As you are well aware I have conducted several profitable raids over the border. My Dodges plus the latest FQ15 have all been aquired in mexico and there are more raids on the drawing board. Will be conducting a reci over the river in November so you are wellcome to strap on your spurs and join me or we can shoot it out, your choice?(bring the camera)
Have been given the location of several vehicles photos indicate a WW1 4 x 4 but in poor order.

Anyway most Mexicans move north in the long run with their spots taken by those folk from the DEEP South, Tassie Devils.

Default Raids

At least there are a couple of gun tractors heading (or headed) South. Somebody has to redress the balance!

So... digital cameras at 20 paces?

Hi Mark,
X is correct with more details & pics to come.
The plan is to take the CGT to Perth next year, I have the time off work now I just need to work out how to pay for fuel. Maybe I need a Refueling tanker!

Default Wusty old cab

Do you think a good rust converter will repair this, or will plastic body filler be needed? Will the repair be strong enough?

Keith is that the back of Euans new toy? is it a wrecker? if the cab is that rotten what is the chassis like. This maybe a C60X lightwieght!
Euan when I find a travelling companion I think I will be able to afford half the fuel bill, that will be some relief.
Are you driving or are you mexicans taking the train?

It is a lightweight because so much of the cab is missing.
Hey, Mark, surely if it is carefully sanded back... we can use that fibreglass mesh with some epoxy?

Default FILM PROP

Hey Keith you have been in the film industry to long a bit of BOG and a litttle paint and sure you could stand in the corner as a Prop. But you will not drive it, though if you took the risk this will probally be more areo dynamic on a long trip. The air could pass through rather than around saving much fuel.

Default That's not rust..

..it's the rare "Kits, Ventilating, Lightweight, Tropical". Not many CMP's were fitted with this mod and most survivors are to be found today in Queensland where they are popular on Fraser Island and many holiday resorts.

Keith, can we tell Mark now about the pictures of this truck on Oldcmp site? Or should I just not mention it? I'll keep quiet then, OK!

Ahh yes, the famous "Gold Coast Chrome" the car dealers mention, AKA rust.

LOL about the kits, funny thing a lot of the surviving CMPs have this kit.

Pity we did not rescue a good cab from Kingaroy before they were crushed

Default Tin Worm

G'day!

And you Ozzies laughed at our salty winter roads. Looks like the deadly (to wusty old twucks) Canadian tin worm has somehow been imported to Oz. Does your Ministry of Agriculture know about this?

Cheers, mates

Yes, Mike, the Canuck Tinworm lives along our coastal areas in the very breeze. This is where this truck spent most of it's life.
Does look rather authentically Canadian, doesn't it?

Default Manuals

Euan, I have the manuals, but they're not for sale. If you want anything copied/scanned, let me know. The GMC 270 engine (CCKW/DUKW)is not the same as the 270 fitted to the C60X but they are interchangable. The C60X 270 has a lot more Chev features than the US GMC 270.

Tony,

These manuals must be fairly rare - that's the first I can recall seeing.

Default Rare?

My other hand was holding a big stick to beat off the Mexican Plunderers.

Scans are coming to you, too, Cliff along with pics.
I originally thought that the rear bogie would be the same suspension as a CCKW (Would make the modelling easy!), but the torque rods and spring are longer than CCKW. This was explained to me as due to the fact the CCKW used 7.50-20 tyres and the C60X used 10.50-20 tyres, the wheel centres must be further apart. It seems that the items used are the same dimensions as the DUKW!

Default Mexican plunderers

Well, I can understand you wanting to hang onto them if you actually HAD a C60X, but seeing you don't I'm sure you'll see sense and DONATE them to your needy mates (with C60Xs) from the deep South.

Hang on!! I have friends here in NSW, too, who have C60X's (see pic)! We have to keep our C60X's running. In fact, I hear Rick Cove has sold his C60X to NSW. Ha, touche!
So are you saying that Euan now HAS a C60X?

Default Maybe

But it's not actually YOURS, is it? And, by the look it's already restored, so a manual is less necessary...
As for Euan, never-you-mind!
All will be revealed in good time.

I think Euan has a pile of rust that is holding the basic outline of a C60X not all Mexicans have a shed> Their former great leader used up all the shed steel and money building the Phallic Freeway
