Default ML 4.2 aiming posts

Had a discussion with another owner of a 4.2 British mortar tonight, and the subject was the aiming posts. Were they the same as the 3" mortar posts, or were they more akin to the 25pdr posts?

Rob,

I have looked through my 4.2" manuals and the identification list confirms that the 3" and 4.2" mortars share the same folding aiming posts.

Attached are scans from the two pages of CES ,gives you an idea of what to look out for .
There is some controversy as to when these mobile mortar's went into service and it is evident at some point in 1945.
