Good Evening
I think I have found a C8 AMB.

It has been cut down to the floor but the rear wheel wells and cab are there.

Default C8A Ambulance

Don,

As far as I know, C-HU-441-M denotes a C8A Heavy Utility.

Here are some threads which might yield useful info for you:
- chevrolet heavy Utility
- C8A Ambulance - For Trade or Sale

HTH,
Hanno

Question C8A Ambulance

Don,

It is not possible to tell from this plate as all C8A variants of this period had the standard C.HU-441-M designation.

It is the 'VEHICLE MODEL' plate , which should be mounted to the left of this that would give the model. In the case of it being an ambulance it would have the legend: C.HU-441-M-AMB-1.

From what you describe there appears to be little of the rear body left but possible clues: the ambulance had floor mounted lockers which incorporated the wheel arch. Theye ran from just inside the rear/side doors to within 4 inches of the rear. The offside (drivers) side locker was also slightly deeper than the other as this doubled as seat. There were mounting brackets welded direclty onto the floor for the stretcher frame. There are two identical brackets, one about 12 inches in from the nearside rear/side door and the other inside the rear door just left of centre. In addition there is a circular boss just in from the front mounted bracket. If the cab/rear body divider is still there it would have two large 'pockets' protruding into the cab area to accept the stretcher legs.

Hope this helps . Ian
