The Black Watch of Canada-Annual Church Parade
For the past 75 years the Regiment has held thier annual church parade on the first Sunday in May.They march out of their distinguished armoury.led by the regimental Pipes and Drums, battle coulors proudly flying in the breeze ,to the sound of the regimental tune"The Black Bear"up Bleury Street to Sherbrooke Street, turn left ,march about a mile to the church of St.Andrew and St.Paul.which houses their battle colours, which were earned in both WW1 and WW2.The regiment has now been turned down by the City of Montreal for a permit to carry out this tradition.because,as Sherbrooke street is so wide, that it has been designated as a Hazardous Cargo route,in case of an emergency evacuation of hazardous explosives !!Now,at 10'00 AM on a Sunday morning, you can count the cars each block.Unfortunately, this is another ploy of some "SEPERATISET" civil servant who despises us anglos here in Queebeck,or however the hell you spell it.Half my family, including inlaws and neighbors fought for this DAMNED regiment, and I am royally PISSED off.God damned seperatists.F them all the ignorant bastards.Screwing us anglos again any way they can.

Church Parade
So who is if the Black Watch formed up and paraded off to church will the police stop them? Wouldn't that make great news coverage on TV.

About two hundred members and ex-members of the Black Watch held their church parade along Sherbrooke St as planned this Sunday disregarding the rules. It the Germans couldn’t stop them, no city bylaw was going to stop them.

Morning paper headline
Montreal Gazette,Monday,May 08,2006
"Defiant Black Watch takes traditional parade route". Lt.Col McKay,the commanding officer had a chat with the police officer in charge.."He asked me what route we wanted to take.I said Sherbrooke Street and he said Okay". So I called my ex side drummer buddy this morning from the air force pipe band who's now the lead side drummer with the regiment. He laughed on the phone and I quote,"when we lined up in parade formation in the armoury the RSM gave the march off command and as I was on the right rear corner of the band I saw the Drum Major with his drum mace in the right wheel signal as we marched out the main entrance.I thought to myself that the dum dum forgot the route but the pipers were following him,Boy you should have seen the smiles on the faces of the drummers.Everyone was looking and smiling at each other. The people clapped along the whole route. What a great day." |

Someone listened to Gordon Y!!!
Hi
Probably not a good thing for the CO's "Career development" but.......................... WELL DONE!! A nice shiny parade boot square in the a*s of the Bureaucrats who obviously have no idea what it means to be a soldier or more importantly; owe their freedom to one. regards Darrell |

It was nice to hear that the Black Watch had a police escort on sunday to keep the bureaucrats from getting in the way of the parade.

Black Watch Church Parade
I was very pleased to read the my old Regiment held their annual church parade on first Sunday in May as per custom.
However, I was surprised t read that they marched off to the Regimental March Past "The Black Bear"????? When was "Highland Laddie" dropped as the March Past or was this a typo???? Bill Spence, MacDuff Piper

Hi
Fine the Military??!! That's rich. They can go ahead and try but I doubt that when the next "Ice Storm" or Native Protest a la Oka hits, the Black Watch will be too anxious to help. Actually, since they're likely a million time more professional that a Montreal Public Servant, they'll be there fo the city and do an excellent job. Speaking solely as a citizen; this whole attitude by the city is rather disgusting. regards Darrell http://www.blackwatchcanada.com/ |

Re: Black Watch Church Parade
Quote:
"the Black Bear " is the official march of the Old Regiment."Highland Laddie" is also an official regimental tune of another Heeland regiment, but it slips my mind at the moment(it may be the Highland Light Infantry).I have it somewhere here at home.Every time the regiment marches off in parade order from the armoury everyone knows what the first tune will be.But one time, for a parade, our air force pipe band were invited to march out of the armory after the ,and not to be outdone,we marched off to the "Air Forch Marchpast" |

By the way Bill
Seeing the Black Watch are your old regiment, did you know that, instead of wearing the balmoral with the red haclle, they're now wearing the Glengarry.Someone I know and I were arguing one day after a parade at the mess(St.Patricks' Day).He argued that they're breaking tradition by wearing the glengarry.Sooo,
the next time I saw him I brought a picture of my wife's grandfather from WW1 in kilt dated 1915 wearing the glen.End of argument. |

'Highland Laddie' is the official Quick March (or Regimental March) of the RHC (with 'The Red Hackle' being the official Slow March). 'Black Bear' is normally the traditional March Back to the Barracks tune of Highland Regiments (and others). When did the Black Watch change from 'Highland Laddie' or has Shadow brought you one to many cold ones........ Cheers

Mark!Mark!Mark!
You've been watching too many Gungha Din movies. Also leave my beer slave out of this as he has his afternoon nap here in the den beside me.I'll go kick him and tell him it's from you.
Now,if "The Black Bear"is not the regimental marchpast, why ,when the command is shouted for the regimental marchpast,do they break into Black Bear.Hmmm? |

Mea culpa !
Just called a buddy from the Black Watch and he confirmed,to my chagrin, that Heeland Bloodie Laddie(as my pipe major reffered to the tune) is the official marchpast of the regiment(as he laughed his ass off on the phone). Now where's that golden retreiver beer getting dawg Shadow."My bottle's empty.get dad another Molson Dry,you dumb dog ,friend of Mark Tonner",as he gives the "what did I do" look as he wakes up..Oh by the way,dum-dum golden was in the back yard on Sunday, when, what should land in the backyard,a Canada Goose, not ten feet away from his nibs.Stamding on our patio deck,I yell at him to go get the duck.He turns.runs right past the duck to the garden gate, looking for CATS.Anyone want to buy a duck shy Golden ??At least he fetches beer !!

Me thinkum, City Hall is way out of the loop in regard to this one.
These men are the finest in world soldiers, and proper respect should be shown by the officials, who would not in the main understand, what tradition is all about. I would think that after facing the might of the German army, a piss ant official just would not be able to match witts with these guys. Maybe if city hall understood about two things, they might just quitely walk away from this issue. Firstly tradition is important to all of us, and secondly if they understood about DUTY HONOUR COUNTRY Then this matter would have never come up. A missle attack, highly unlikely, just another excuse for the almighty to think they are just that. They will all be gone and forgotten, when the guys are still strutting their stuff. Good on yah guys. Col Tigwell Downunder

Thanks for your comments Col Tigwell
But,in perspective, you've got to think "seperatist" where I live. These people in the bureaucrcy will do anything to upset the norm. They'll do anything to knock down Canada.
