Default Gatineau Airshow 2016

Yesterday I was invited to assist the Cold War Collection display three of their vehicles at the Gatineau Quebec airport which is also home to the Vintage Wings of Canada collection. Their website is here http://www.vintagewings.ca/en-ca/home.aspx

The event is held as part of the VW of C mandate to keep it's status as a museum.

They are fortunate to have had a CF 18 in BCATP colours and the Snowbirds as some of the attendees, the full list is of what was there is on the website.

The Cold War Collection brought out the Belgian CVR(T) Scorpion and the Austrian Steyr-Puch Pinzgauer 6 X 6 and the latest addition to their fleet a 1969 Cadillac Gage V100, which was the vehicle I staffed with another volunteer ad Forum member Terry Warner.

The Cold War Collection carries insuranc coverage specifically to allow public interaction with vehicles and we had line ups all day long, often over 20 people long. The small kids scrambled on in and loved standing in the turret.

Derek and Dave who manned the Scorpion were allowing folks into the turret and they had a similar line up.

I am a vehicle kind of person but d have an appreciation of other mechanical devices such as aircraft. I have some basic knowledge and was able to pck up on interesting details.

Regrettably I did not have time to wander around the airside displays so my pictures are limited.

Don't ask me why this airshow is on a weekday and advertised in a low key manner, that is another organisations event and I was happy to be invited and attend and be part of it all.

Hope you enjoy the pictures and wordage

Some of the interesting aircraft on site were the A4 Skyhawk that is American registered but operated by CAE and used to verify their simulation work, the scheme would be ideal for a model maker looking for something odd ball. A bit of an explanation is here https://www.flightglobal.com/news/ar...ighter-425709/ and another piece here http://www.ainonline.com/aviation-ne...-rival-bidders

The Alpha jet is Canadian registered and is operated by a company who provides aggressor aircraft services for the CF under contract.

The Lysander belongs to Vintage Wings of Canada.

Finally the militarised kids toy was too much to not photograph, some people have a sense of humour still.

The V100 is interesting and we had many questions about the lineage of the vehicle and it's connection to Ferrets and LAV and AVGP developments.

Thanks to a forum member on here the Cold War Collection acquired the vehicle from out west.

I apologies that I only seem to have shots of myself in front of vehicles, my error in not having person free shots.

The Canadian War Museum did send 3 vehicles over to the event, a Carrier and a Lynx and it's cousin an M113.

I didn't get a chance to go over to their vehicles and their staff were only under a tent and their vehicles were not opened up, as a result the crowds seemed to bypass them and come straight to our display.

We had a portrayal of a WW2 airborne Jeep and the owner and a re enactor with them beside us.

The CWM had a perfect site on one of the main airfield entry lanes, but dropped their three vehicles without much for interpretive staff. But - give them credit for getting out of 1 Vimy Place.

The V100 was a real curiousity. "How much does it weigh?" Six and a half tons empty. "How thick is the armour?" Enough. And it will stop a .30 cal bullet. "Is this new?" Nope. Nineteen sixty nine. "Is this the new Canadian one?" No. This is the TAPV's great grand uncle. "Does it really go in the water?" Yes. Put in four plugs and it is supposed to float just about there ((pointing just below the midline of the armour )). "Can I get inside the tank?" I can lip read somewhat, and I saw a young woman say that. So I in my voice from on high, said, NO! This is an armoured car, not a tank!

Default Sorry to have missed it

Looks like this was a great show. Shame it wasn't advertised on this forum. Were the vehicles there by invitation only? A few years back we had a big attendance of MV's there on request by the organisers and they were well appreciated.
