I looked into an RT524 and IKEE for my M151A2 also. The choice was a complete radio or an empty case. One would be heavy, unlawful to broadcast with and likely subject to ITARS. The other would be much less heavy, benign, available for several sources and not necessarily a challenge to import.

There seem to be several Israeli companies selling radios and parts on line. I don't know the rules to buy from Israel, but it was presented as much less problematic than buying from the US. Shipping of course makes a big difference on the delivered cost.

Off topic, do you have the AMU mount? If so, I'd like to see some pictures.

Perry.

If you set yourself up with one of the two parcel service companies in Pembina, ND, you can order from the USA for delivery there with no problem. Just drive down when it arrives and pick it up.

Also, the Winnipeg Amateur Radio Club offers two Amateur Radio courses each year. Five weeks every Saturday for $75.00 including all textbooks. As long as you get 80%, or better, on the final exam, you are good to operate much of the available ex military radio equipment.

As mentioned, wireless equipment is getting more and more expensive to source. Hard to justify that kind of investment sitting gathering dust. If you can actually work it at a show, it really draws a crowd and helps bring your vehicle to life.

From what I have seen, the dealers in the US are loathe to send anything out of the country. A friend even had them refuse to sell him an antenna tiedown. The fact is that all the radio stuff (and weapons stuff, and even military vehicle parts for that matter) is generally controlled for export from the US, and while 99 times out of a hundred, nothing will come of it, but when it does, the fines will bankrupt a smaller company and hurt the larger ones.

As for David's suggestion that the radio draws people to your vehicle display, personally I prefer the trifecta: a good clean military vehicle, the appropriate weapons (demilled of course for public display) and the comms gear. Between those 3 items you will interest a wide segment of the population. And if I don't have the radios, then at least having the antenna on the AMU gives the vehicle another dimension.

Good luck in the hunt Perry.
