Default RIP, Wing Commander Ronald Tyler.

With great sadness I advise that Wing Commander (Ret.) Ronald William Tyler MBE, has passed away on Sunday 6th August, 2017. Mr Tyler gave 35 years of service to his country in the Royal Australian Air Force, and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. For his efforts in devising and constructing a radar system which could see beyond the horizon, he was awarded the Member of the Order of British Empire in the Queens Honors List of 1977. As the Cold War was in full swing in those days, the award was stated to have been for a wider range of contribution during that time, and the true reason for the award was not disclosed until many years later. Upon his retirement in 1992, Mr Tyler began a long involvement in Volunteer Coast Guard, and would retire years later with the rank of Commodore. He was awarded the Emergency Services Medal for his contribution and improvements to the service. Mr Tyler had suffered a number of health conditions in recent years, and his health declined significantly. I have been on verge of tears most of the day, since I heard news of his passing. He was an exceptionally brilliant and distinguished serviceman, and although he was unable to speak since a stroke 18 months ago, his nature and warm personality was palpable. Wing Commander Tyler was 80 years of age, at time of his passing. Farewell, dear Sir. We salute you.
