It is with deepest sympathy that I pass on the bad news of John's death this morning.
John was diagnosed with cancer around Chritmas time, and after a long, agonizing battle, he has lost.
John was a dear friend to me, both of us helping each other out and attending all kinds of shows and events together. He was a huge supporter of our hobby, hosting the West End Meet every summer for his fellow collectors and was a very enthusiastic and supportive individual.
He will be sadly missed...

that is indeed very sad news about John's death this morning. John gave very generously to this hobby and you are right that he will be sadly missed.

Ah Chris, my condolences to you and to John's family. He and my sister were diagnosed and passed away around the same times.

How sad.

Celebrate her/his life.
Take care of yourself.
Give yourself time to grieve.

A friend of mine said those words to me a couple of days ago.

I only met John at his West End swap meets, and only about 4-5 times.

I remember him as being really appreciative of those who attended his events, and shared our collective thoughts and experiences.

Chris...this must be a double whammy for you since your dad left us just after a show at John's, what, two years ago?

Yes dad left me around a year and a half ago, in August.
It is ironic how John was there for me, almost like a second father.
He was encouraging and a real inspiration.
Seeing him go down hill so fast certainly was / is difficult considering the fact that both passings were quite close, as were both men to me.
Karmen, sorry I meant to pass along condolences sooner on your sisters behalf.

Sorry to hear you lost your Dad, and thats still so fresh for you.

I'm glad you have some wonderful memories and things to "celebrate" ... I celebrate my sisters life for sure and value the impact she had on me from childhood onwards. Nuf said ... I get shmaltzy here and feel more the missing at the moment. A little raw. I'm so very glad we had some time to adapt to the idea that Susie would be leaving us, it made my conversations with her right up til a couple of days or so ago ... all that more precious because while talking with her I felt appreciation for what she was to me and my life ... we got to say I love you and know we both knew that. That was good. She could only listen by then, but she got out the I love you on the phone from her hospital bed. I'm just really glad she doesn't hurt anymore.

Yes ... deterioration happens so very very fast ... and hard. Very hard to see.

Celebrate her life ... and feel and know exactly how and why I love and will miss my sister ... to me, thats honouring her life too. Ya gotta cry lots at first too.

Well ... one thing we ALL know, all of us MLU-ers, is personal loss of loved ones, so we can all empathize. "I hear ya".

Thanks to your warning I did manage to have a last long conversation with John at the end of February. I did not realize that his condition was so serious as he laughed and smiled thru two hours of memories. Its good that he saw spring's arrival.

He will be missed and remembered.

Im am very sad to hear this news.

I had the pleasure of meeting John for the first time at the last West End BBQ. It was great to talk to him and gain some of his knowledge about all things Military.

Thanks to Chris, I had the pleasure of going back up to his place a few more times to work on a deal for some carrier parts. I remember he invited me back in to his kitchen to talk as he wanted to find out more about my carrier and next thing I knew a few hours had passed. He gave me great inspiration toward the restoration of my carrier.

Even though we only met 3 times he will be sadly missed by me.

Chris, please pass on his condolences to his family for me.

For those of you who may not be aware, fellow collector and enthusiast John Adamiak lost his fight with cancer in March. I was asked to let the fellow collectors and MLUers out thereknow when the estate was to go to auction.
John's brother has informed me that a sale will take place at the residence on September 17, 2005.
Included is all the mvs, parts and militaria that John collected, as well as the usual household stuff and many tools and pieces of equipment.
I will try to post some more info closer to the actual date.
Tell a friend and spread the word, lots of goodies to be had.

John's place is located between the town of Acton, ON and Rockwood, ON. It is out in the country at the corner of 6th Line Nassegeweya and 25 Sideroad. I do not have the exact fire route address at this moment, but, will post complete directions as the date nears.

That water trailer would appear to be the one I sold Chris Vickery along with my KL a few years back. I bought it off Don Overs of Moose Jaw who got it from a garage that used it to store waste oil.

I think I may just make a road trip next month. Some of that stuff looks pretty interesting.

Where is everyone? With all of the MLU and OMVA guys attending the auction I am surprised that no one has started a thread. Peter Simundson said we should have had a general meeting there were so many guys present. I personally had a lot of fun talking to everyone and bidding on the odd trinket. I did manage to get the water trailer I wanted thanks to Chris, Jim and Rob. Janet will have one more water tank for her gardens and I have another MV. The prices on the whole were good and the amount of neat stuff was unbelievable. I know Brian will chime in with the vehicle prices. Unfortunately I don't know everyone so I will not list people who were there, so as to not include someone.

: There were some people I wanted to meet that I heard were there but missed. Even Brian Asbury was buying so that gives you an idea of the prices. He is a wholesale buyer while most of the rest of us are retail buyers. I asked Brian if this was the ultimate in recycling for him. Sell to buyer--buy back at auction and resell later to another buyer. Geoff was not there, which was surprising, him being a people person and not a vehicle guy. I had money for him, a complaint and a question.
The weather was great and the food was fair priced and good.
Who could ask for anything more.

It was good to see everybody at the auction - just too bad it had to be held. Even a rare sightings of Jon Skagfeld and Bruce Parker occured.

I see lots of stuff went to deserving new homes, and I expect to see plenty of the stuff at gun shows and MV events for the next while.

A 'special ' congratulations to Jim Ritchie. I think it was Sandy Marshall who wrote me a note a few years ago when I joined 'The Stupid Bastards' Club. He is braver than me tho - I had to sneak mine home while my wife was out of town for the day. Good luck Jim - get a manual from Alex Blair and all the rest is downhill. Carriers are the easiest vehicles to restore - that is why everybody wants one, and so few do.

Barry and Stewart have already described yesterday accurately .....a really perfect late summer southern Ontario day with warm temperatures and beautiful sunny skies. Everything was fine except of course, the reason for the sale. The auction was very well attended with many MLU and OMVA members present. During much of the 6+ hours of the sale there were two auctioneers operating.

Most of the vehicles were in pretty tough shape as reflected in the following sale prices:

CMP Chev C60L, 13 cab with machinery box. $155.

CMP Chev C15A, 12 cab, flat deck body, $475.

CMP Ford, 13 cab....just the cab itself $100.

What is really interesting, to me, is that the MK.1* carrier won by an Ontario buyer was serial No. 14623, assigned the number CT113651, built on March 6, 1943. My carrier is a Mk.1* serial No. 14606, assigned the number CT113649 built on March 6, 1943. The auction carrier had 'desert' bins for the water cans on the rear deck. Looking afresh at mine, it too had these bins.

Fantastic day and fantastic event (although somewhat morbid as previously noted).

The turn out was absolutely phenomenal. Parking was at a premium...I parked about 1/2 MILE away, having arrived about 1030 AM.

Good to see again the "regulars" who share the ethos of our collecting passions.

It was very interesting to see how the auctioneers did their patter, sometimes listing individual items, sometimes holding up stuff in a mini job lot.

Bids, in general, I thought appeared to be fair.

Serendipity showed its face in that Chris Vickery and I struck a non-compensatory deal with a pair of Lamps, Inspection for our CMPs.

Brian Gough went with me yesterday to pick up all my junk. It was kind of sad to be at John's and all that's left is a couple of trucks and a bunch of empty buildings. I suppose this will be happening more and more as we all get older. The young guys like Chris Vickery and Jim Ritchie will end up with all our stuff.

Thanks to John McLean from the scrap yard down the road who was at John's and more than willing to help us load. He had a tractor with a fork lift and loaded the skids of steel slick as anything. Brian was sooooo happy because we had planned to hand bomb all that stuff. The first photo is Brian and John's brother Stan.

that radio box was not part of the sale last Saturday. I believe it was already owned by a MLU Forum member and was purchased sometime prior to the auction. Condition is rough but very restorable.

Brian. When is the next day his brother will be there.?? Who got the carrier track??? I know Barry did a seperate deal with the guy who got the skin mags and took most of them in the van. Maybe that's why he's got such a big smile in the photo??
