Default Veteran's license plate

Just sent in my $5.00 and application with required documentation. We'll see what happens...the local Motor Vehicles office didn't know what the format would be, especially if one already has a vanity plate (Own Choice Plate, in their terminology).

BTW, I mentioned my intention to get this plate to another serving guy...he objected to my doing so since I wasn't a veteran, according to his definition of the term.

Well, you can be damn sure I looked up in the Concise Oxford Dictionary (accepted reference for the Canadian military) before I made a move and...

..."person who has grown old in or had long experience of (esp. military) service or occupation, ex serviceman".

My next observation might open up a veritable can of messy worms, but if the above definition stands, then perhaps the term "Veteran" has, for quite some time, been wrongly used to solely identify those who served during wartime.

Excuse me while I don helmet and flak jacket and, by a series of large leaps, head for the nearest blast proof bunker.

Default Licence Plates

Greetings All; We here in N.B. have had these "Veterans" plates for a couple of months. N.S. has had them for approx a month previous to us. They are avail to any retired(honourably discharged) or serving member of the Canadian Armed Forces who has served for a specified time or in specified areas and can prove by provision of documented proof of service to the provincial command of the Royal Canadian Legion, and in conjunction with the Dept of Motor Vehicles the plates are issued free of charge by the Province as replacement plates. As for the term"veteran", I'll leave that one strictly alone.
Cheers,Bill

Default License plates, again

Of general interest, especially to Art Johnson, originator of this thread.

Just got my plates today by Expresspost. I started the process at the local licensing place on 16 Dec 03. Considering Xmas and New Year's operating hours, that's a prety impressive turn around time.
