Default Snake

Just as I took this pic a snake fell out of the bottom of the carrier onto the truck, it was a death adder, that caused a bit of fast foot work

I realise that this pic is a bit off topic but this is the view from where I found the carrier and where it spent its life working it really is a beautiful spot,

The cp over dd logo on the engine is interesting - all of the bolts on my WC 55/52 which are original, bear the logo dp over cd.

I know it's rivet counter stuff, but I wonder if there is a story there ?

The build date of 25 March 1940 would certainly tie in with the production date of the Marmon-Herrington Two Man Tank.
But then the next question is: would a Hercules engine carry a Chrysler Dodge Plymouth De Soto logo? Or is it an entirely different engine altogether? Would not be surprising since this tracked vehicle is the proverbial bitsa.

Thanks for sharing the story, Ron, looks like a great country indeed.

H.

Ron
The gear box has a very distinct square casting flanged front(Rear?) and I can find nothing in all my manuals that looks remotely like that..
I can't see any engine shots but if you can post some front/side /top pix of the engine I'll look at them..I was checking my Hercules JXD engine manual but can't see any engine shots to help ident it..
Shots of the engine/bell housing /transmission would be great..
Great looking pictures..

Default Engine

Hello Alex,
We removed the engine that was just lying in the carrier and left it in the bush ,you can see it on the crane in one of the shots, I thought it was of no use as I only intended to take the carrier remains, But I will go back and get some pics of it
many thanks for your interest in it, it would be nice to know what we are dealing with, this is what makes our hobby so enjoyable, its always nice not to know all of the answers at least thats what I think.
Regards,
Ron,

Thanks

I can't see the crane shot well enough or close enough to ident it...
Probably that engine you left in the bush has the one part on it that some guy in the world would give his left one for and would send you vast sacks of Kugerands for it...
AS a certified hoarder and inherited collector of just about anything shiney or rusty,I know from 35 years of blissful life with my better 3/4 's that if it wasnt for her ability to clean out my "Valuables" every few months, our abode would be unihabitable...
I'm still ticked off at her, when in '73 she"purged" our abode of a Deutz Champagne bucket ,silver with the big Deutz emblem in Green enamal on the side, that I "liberated" in Switzerland back in '69....

Default engine number

Gday ron,

I have just checked out the casting numbers on the half ton dodge project that i have outside and they are 579298-3 with the same C P D D logo, although there is no date code, such as o
n your engine .

My dodge is a WC21 with an engine number of T 215-25752s with a build date of around mid march 1942 .

I hope this helps with your id

let me know if you wish to part with the engine as i could use a spare .

Cheers matt baker
