Default How many C/F 8's are operational

Just curious, does anyone know how many C or F 8's are operational (Operational means being able to drive down the road under their own power.) here in North America? If possible, how many are located in Canada and how many are located in the US?

Regards,
Jim

In Saskatchewan and Alberta I know of eight 8 cwts and only two are operational, one near Eston Sask and one in Saskatoon, Sask. I hope to add mine to the operational list sometime this year as long as I don't get too sidetracked with other stuff.

Thumbs up F-8

This truck is running again. If you do a search I think that there are more pictures on the forum.

Default 8-cwt in England

There´s a well-known F8 in the UK, search this forum for pictures.

Also, a C8 Cab 12 recently turned up for sale in the UK:

My guesss is that you have a 15cwt 4x2. Both Ford and Chevrolet models are listed in the AEDB Design Record.

Rob,those are 15 cwt gas tanks and wheels so I'd say it's a 15 cwt. The 8 cwts have 6 bolt wheels. Compare pics of 8 and 15 cwts and you'll see that the front fenders are narrower on the 8 cwt too.

Default C8

Another C8 turned up here is W.A. at a private collection in the Wheatbelt.
Original and unrestored but very tired after many years of service. Owner looking for a super rare 13" rim

Default Four in Eastern Ontario?

As Paul Singleton said, my F8 cab 12 is running but it won't have a finished box and new canvas until September.
Mike Calnan at Swords and Ploughshares has a running C8, Jason Ginn near Ottawa has another F8 - must be running or near running now- and the war museum in Ottawa has at least one though not sure if its runnable any more. So that's four at least in E. Ontario.
Anyone doing the math to add 'em up?

Default C8

It was amongst some other trucks, mainly fords which have been made into trailers, its drivable, he HOP in and take it for a spin I said NO, I wouldn,t come back, It,s not mine ( yet ) so at the moment not much to see. It is in great condition, runs ,stops and has many original bits, some removed like the rear corners of the steel body.

One of the ford trucks had trouble with the door posts cracking so they modified the thing by welding up the door and cutting a new one. I,m working on it .

Default F8 not C8

I'm sure that Jason Ginn's 8 is a Ford not a Chev.

Default Updated list of operational C8/F8s

Based on what I can decipher from the input here's an upgraded list.

C8’s - 15, 6 of which are running

New South Wales, Australia
(Under restoration)Queensland, Australia
(Running) Queensland, Australia
(Under restoration) New South Wales, Australia
(Almost running) Victoria, Australia
(Under restoration)Western Australia, Australia
Western Australia, Australia
(Running) Mike Calnan, Ontario, Canada
War Museum (C8?), Ontario, Canada
Eston, Saskatchewan, Canada
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
(Running) 3 (C8’s ?) , Netherlands
(Running) Oregon, USA

F8’s - 4, 3 of which are running

(Running) Ontario, Canada
(Running) Arizona, USA
(Running) England, Great Britain
Jason Ginn, Ontario, Canada

Thanks for your input! Sure does appear that the Chevrolets are the favorite for restoration! Again, any corrections/additions are appreciated.

Regards,
Jim

Jim,

I think you will find some more info on surviving babies here on the forum; if I remember correctly there is a thread regarding chassis numbers, which also lists some other survivors....(?)

One of the Dutch F8's is owned by the Witten family, it's a cab 12 with lengthened "short box" as pictured in this thread. The other two were running as well. The green one came from the Uk some years ago.

My C8 is not under restoration yet...same goes for the C8 in the private collection of Dirk and Stefan. Than there is another unrestored C8 cab 11 with lengthened short box for sale at Dirk's. I believe the Cab 12 C8 with long box sold in the meantime and I guess it's being restored by the new owner. Dirk told me it stayed in Holland and went to a private museum.

Don't forget Nick Bullock's C8 in the UK. Also there is another great F8 in the UK with camo.......owned by one of the Ashby guys(?).
The F8 in desert colours is owned by Clifton Lang and performed in Beltring last weekend.

What about the brown one in the UK shown in this thread.....would it be the one used in the TV/Film about the Dambusters as shown on the forum before?

Alex

The NSW F8 is part of a large collection , it isn't restored . The owner rang me years ago chasing 900-13 tyres . He is a well known collector of ex MV's.

I did hear of another one ..but just a rumour unconfirmed .

Default Updated (7/31/09) List of Operational C8/F8s

Here's yet another cut at the list. BTW, the reason I started the list was the result of finding only one F8 on the Registry. Felt there must be more. In any case here it is:

C8’s – 14 (6 running)
(Under restoration) Unknown, New South Wales, Australia
(Under restoration) Unknown, New South Wales, Australia
(Under restoration) Unknown, Queensland, Australia
(Under restoration) RoB Mcbride, Queensland, Australia
(Running) Unknown, Queensland, Australia
(Almost running) Mike Kelly, Victoria, Australia
(Under restoration) Unknown, Western Australia, Australia
(Running?) Unknown, Western Australia, Australia
(Running) Mike Calnan, Ontario, Canada
(Running?) War Museum (C8 or F8?), Ontario, Canada
(Running) Unknown, Eston, Saskatchewan, Canada
(Running) Unknown, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
(Running) Nick Bullock, United Kingdom
(Running) Chuck Anderson, Oregon, USA

F8’s – 11 (11 Running)
(Running) Reg Hodgson, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
(Running) Jason Ginn, Ontario, Canada
(Running) David Moore, Ontario, Canada
(Running) Jim Price, Arizona, USA
(Running) Unknown, England, United Kingdom
(Running) Witten Family, Netherlands
(Running) Unknown, Netherlands
(Running) Unknown, Netherlands
(Running) Unknown, England, United Kingdom
(Running) Ashby Bros., United Kingdom
(Running) Clifton Lang, United Kingdom

It's interesting to note that there are almost twice as many Fords running as there Chevrolets!

Regards,
Jim

PS Have a look at the list to make sure I haven't duplicated any of those shown or if there's any corrections. I'm more interested in listing those that are road-worthy. Thanks!
