Default Aust Track Adjusting Spanner

Just shows we all learn something new every day.......

I had a query from a restorer that his Aust track adjusting spanner didn't fit the holders in the rear of the Aust carrier (back plate). Why? Hell, I didn't know!

Well, to make a long story short, the dimensions were changed making the distance from the spanner head to the right angle bend longer. Hence, a long spanner won't fit a 'short' holding box/bracket. This probably applies to side-mounted tool sets as well, as these are early mounting brackets.

The Workshop Manual (large format) holds the solution: it details a mod to the bracket to take the long spanner.

So if any of you with early numbered Aust carriers find the track spanner you have doesn't fit, refer to the Aust W/shop manual for the solution (or find an early 'short' spanner....).
